Birdies weren’t an issue in the first round of the 2015 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, as 98 players managed to break par and fourteen currently sit at -6 or better. We continue our look at the tournament with these suggestions for the 2nd round two-balls:

**analysis of the outright market and 1st round 2-balls can be found here

Hunter Mahan (1.5) vs. Bo Van Pelt (3)

Mahan played very well in Round 1, firing a 4-under par 68 that featured 6 birdies. He edged playing partner Van Pelt by 2 shots and has generally played better than Van Pelt this year, but I’m not sure that’s quite enough to justify the price here. Mahan hasn’t shot better than 71 in the 2nd round of any event since early November and he withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open last week due to the birth of his child. Will his attention be divided on Friday? With a chance to double my money, I’m willing to pay to find out. Recommendation: Van Pelt at 3.00

Jonas Blixt (2.62) vs. J.B. Holmes (1.62)

Holmes is tied for the tournament lead after a blistering 1st-round 64, so he certainly isn’t showing any signs of a hangover after losing the Farmers Insurance Open in a playoff last week. However, he doesn’t have a whole lot of experience sleeping on a lead, and he’ll be playing Monterey Peninsula today, a course that doesn’t set up quite as well for him as Pebble Beach. Jonas Blixt seems to throw in at least one quality round every week, as he’s shot 68 or better in either the 1st or 2nd round of all four tournaments that he’s played this year. After a 72 yesterday, he feels a bit dangerous. Recommendation: Blixt at 2.62

Scott Langley (2.38) vs. Graham DeLaet (1.73)

DeLaet was absolutely horrible yesterday, shooting 76 (+4) at Spyglass Hill, and that was definitely a surprise given what we’ve seen out of him lately. In his last two events prior to this week (Humana Challenge, Waste Management Open) DeLaet broke par in all 8 of his rounds, finishing 7th in Phoenix and 30th at the Humana. I think he’s a safe bet to bounce back with a solid effort today and he should beat Langley, who had missed back-to-back cuts coming into this week and fired a 73 (+1) yesterday. Recommendation: DeLaet at 1.73

Jason Kokrak (1.44) vs. Danny Lee (3.25)

Both Kokrak and Lee managed to break par at Spyglass Hill yesterday, but anyone who has been following these two guys over the past several weeks knows that this is a bit of a mismatch. Kokrak is one of the Tour’s more underrated players, a great ball-striker who has managed 71 or better in 11 of his 13 rounds in 2015 (the other two were a 72 and a 73). Lee, meanwhile, has shot 70 or higher in 7 consecutive rounds and has missed two cuts over the past month. Although the odds aren’t very friendly here, Kokrak is the only sensible play. Recommendation: Kokrak at 1.44
