CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEDNESDAY PREVIEW:  Man City all but secured their sport in the Champions League Group stage with an emphatic victory last night. Tonight we turn our attentions further north as Celtic look to make use of their homefield advantage. Elsewhere we have some scintillating ties with Porto taking on Roma, and Monaco travelling to Villareal.

Celtic v Hapoel Beer Sheva

7.45pm Many would have looked at this draw and felt that Celtic couldn’t have asked for better opposition. Hapoel are new to the Champions League scene, but don’t write them off completely. They scraped past Olympiacos in the third qualifying round with a 1-0 aggregate win, so expect them to try and make this a difficult tie for Celtic. It has been very up and down for the Hoops under Brendan Rodgers with some bad results in the preseason, but with a dominating performance against Motherwell at the weekend their season could be kickstarting at the right time.

This is a tough one to pick a bet for, with Hapoel being quite an unkown and with Celtic being quite up and down in the offseason. What we have seen from Hapoel in their previous Qualifying rounds is that they will play defensive football. This is what got them past Olympiacos in the previous round. Bar their first game against Sheriff they have not conceded a goal, and they will set up to prevent Celtic from scoring also. Celtic should be able to grab a home win, but it won’t be as one sided as people think. Look for a low scoring Celtic victory here. Under 2.5 Goals is currently a decent price at 1.77.

Porto v Roma

7.45pm Two sides one would not be accustomed to seeing face each other at this stage of the competition. Both teams are regulars in the Champions League group stages, but only one can advance this year. Both teams saw plenty of goals in the preseason (particularly Roma with a 16-0 win) so we can expect to see a couple of goals in this one. Neither team will hold back as falling short of the group stages would prove disastrous for either team.

Both teams to score looks a very decent bet in this one, especially considering neither side failed to find the net in any of their preseason games. You can get BTTS at 1.93 which more than reasonable considering both teams form in front of goal. Another bet to look at here is Over 2.5 Goals. With both teams finding the net quite regularly 2.2 is an excellent price for there to be above 2.5 goals. Certainly some money to be made with these selections.
