AUSSIE EIGHT-POINTER SCORES: G’Day Aussie (WON 2-1) did best for the column yesterday, an eight-point bet winning 11 lengths at Fakenham, but paying off only one losing banker. Argante (WON 6-5) dutifully ended Daq Multiples with a winner but had only the ‘Aussie’ for company.

FORTUNE COOKIES’ LEGS ELEVEN: Today Daqman reviews the list of Fortune Cookies, after 11 winners so far. We now wait for analysis of the big Kempton and Leopardstown results over Christmas before Daqman’s final festival horses to follow.

DAQMAN MONDAY: DAQMAN takes one from each of today’s meetings that include an Ayr NAP, an exciting chasing newcomer at Hereford and a dark one at a big price at Chelmsford.

11 RACES WON BY FORTUNE COOKIES

Even the losers are hard to reject. Asthuria fell when seemingly in command at Thurles yesterday, and then Good Thyne Tara ran Samcro to half a length in the Navan bumper.

Both Asthuria and Good Thyne Tara stay in our Fortune Cookies list for further consideration for the final festivals list after Kempton and Leopardstown over Christmas.

I did not see the Navan race but I know a good man who did, and he is adamant that we will be hearing a lot of Samcro and Good Thyne Tara over hurdles, citing the mare as likely to be dominant, if sticking to races for her sex.

AYR: WEST CAN EDGE HIS HAT-TRICK

2.30 Ayr Dr Richard Newland is one of the best in the business at improving horses that come into his care and West Of The Edge is one that has been thriving of late. A winner of his last two starts over fences he reverts to hurdles here off a 6lb lower mark and can be expected to make it a hat-trick of wins. Previously twice a winner of the smaller obstacles he should have no problem with the switch and gets in here off a lovely racing weight under Daryl Jacob. At 2.24 he looks to have rock solid credentials.

HEREFORD: KNIGHT CHASING MAIDEN VICTORY

2.05 Hereford Mystical Knight was an above average novice hurdler last season that was thought good enough to contest a Grade 1 contest at Aintree in the spring. Things might not have gone his way that day but he should be capable of better now sent chasing. Already a winner of two point-to-points, jumping shouldn’t be an issue and he has the potential to make his mark in the novice ranks this season. The form of his trainer is a minor concern as she is yet to hit the mark in the last 14 days but she is operating at a 21% strike rate over fences this season which restores confidence. At 3.2 he looks a bet.

CHELMSFORD: CLEMENT A CHRISTMAS CRACKER

3.20 Chelmsford A weak enough contest here and this type of race is always liable to throw up a funny result so at a big price a case is made for Clement. Six times a winner on the all-weather, he has not shown much form since returning from a summer break but crucially he is reequipped with the visor he has worn for his last three victories today. He has also dropped from a career high mark of 84 in March to a much more manageable 77 here. For small stakes he looks worthy of a small investment at 16.5.

DAQMAN’S BETS:
6pts win MYSTICAL KNIGHT (Hereford 2.05)
9pts win WEST OF THE EDGE (nap) (Ayr 2.30)
3pts win and place CLEMENT (Chelmsford 3.20)
