DANK TO THANK FOR BREEDERS’ CUP NAP: Daqman landed three winners among five returns, from the Breeders’ Cup meeting at Santa Anita last night, including his nap, Dank (WON 6-4), in the Fillies’ and Mares’ and the gamble of the second day, Secret Circle (WON 3-1), in the Dirt Sprint.

5-1 HARRY IS A TOPPER IN BIG CHASE: At home, Daqman opposed the odds-on Long Run in the Charlie Hall Chase and went for Harry Topper (WON 5-1). Added to his Santa Anita hits, which included two place returns, he made 29 points profit on the day. Saturday’s success:

WON 5-1 HARRY TOPPER (9.0 on Betdaq)
WON 6-4 DANK (nap, 3.0 on Betdaq)
3rd 6-1 DANCE CARD (11.0 on Betdaq)
WON 3-1 MIZDIRECTION (5.0 on Betdaq)
3rd 12-1 INDY POINT (14.0 on Betdaq)
WON 3-1 SECRET CIRCLE (8.0 on Betdaq)

MORE BETDAQ MAGIC AT 9.2: There was more Betdaq value in Daqman’s four-horse ante-post preview on the Breeders’ Cup, in which he had a 50% strike rate, two winners out of four, including Magician in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. The Thursday pair were:

WON 7-1 MAGICIAN (Thursday for Saturday, 9.2 on Betdaq)
WON 6-1 OUTSTRIP (Thursday for Friday’s opening day)

DON’T BOTTLE IT! GO FOR LOCAL HORSE AT CORK: It’s a never-ending search for value for Daqman, as he spots a ‘dour stayer’, off near-bottomweight, by the sire of a Grand National winner, poised to win for the locals in the Cork version this afternoon: 13.5 on BETDAQ.

Three low-key acts left before the fat lady sings. Redcar (Tuesday), Nottingham (Wednesday) and Doncaster (Saturday) bring down the curtain on the 2013 Flat season in England, but we had one of the first big chase winners in the bag on Saturday, when Harry Topper left Long Run in his wake.

The Cork Grand National today is a similar kettle of fish – Sword Fish, according to the trade-paper’s value man – in which young horses are likely to overturn the old form.

There have been no winners of a double-figure age in the last 12 years, and those carrying more than 11st 2lb have a lean time: (2 from 15).

There have been a sprinkling of outsiders up to 14-1 in the 15 years, but 10 winners started at 7-1 or less, with Willie Mullins top trainer (his three winners were 5-2 twice and 7-1 at SP).

Mullins’ Rockyaboya (3.25 Cork) is one of the favourites this morning but 8.4 the field on BETDAQ suggests a wide open race unless, and until, we see a run on something.

If the run is on Sword Fish, it will be the Pricewise lemmings, since connections are unlikely to lump on with the stable in the doldrums: Christy Roche has now gone 84 days and 47 runners without win, according to the Racing Post’s own ‘Signposts’.

The beast has a plethora of aids – including blinkers and tongue-tie – has been beaten favourite twice in his last three starts, has never won, or even raced, beyond 25f, and yet to score on ground worse than yielding. With soft or heavy in the going return, his record is 00020P00000000000.

He’s been beaten more than 41 lengths in his two runs back this autumn. If you are clutching at straws, his only chase success came third race of the year; he is only seven; and the step up to 3m 4f might be in his favour.

Eight of these have seen the galloping rear end of Wise Oscar, including Sword Fish, but he is 12lb higher than for his last chase success and has been beaten more than 26 lengths in his two runs back.

Tom Horn is the only one he’s beaten with any pretensions now of getting near him at the revised weights, but firm-ground winner Tom badly needs a massive drying wind from the Celtic Sea. Another Palm also prefers a sound surface.

Ipsos Du Berlais is high in the weights but with a chase rating still slightly lower than he was awarded as a Grade-1 hurdler, albeit he pulled up at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals.

Ipsos has managed 22f so far. Even that is considerably further than his full-brother, Far West. There is no stamina of today’s requirement to be found in Rockyaboya’s pedigree either.

Unoccupied is interesting among the lightweights, as a son of Old Vic, who has got both Gold Cup and a Grand National winners. He was made a lot of use of over 3m at Galway on his return.

It’s the exact same (don’t you just love tautology) training schedule as when he won pulling a bus in the mud on a quick reappearance at Tramore last Christmas. His subsequent 21f hurdles win had the Racing Post form response ‘dour stayer.’

Unoccupied gallops all day, it seems, and 13.5 looked good value on BETDAQ this morning for this local horse from down the road at Mallow.
