7-1 TREBLE AND BANKERS HAT-TRICK: Daqman completed a hat-trick of bankers (11 from the last 16) when Cue Card scored by 15 lengths yesterday and landed him a 7-1 treble for 28 points profit. His three were:

WON 3-1 Don Bersey
WON 2-5 Yanworth
WON 4-9 Cue Card (banker)

15-8 LEAD BEFORE NAVAN MATCH: Cue Card’s Ascot Stakes triumph took Daqman further ahead of his arch-rival Pricewise of the Racing Post (by 15-8) with 37 points between them (+24 to -13) to a single-unit stake.

TODAY: Their head-to-head continues on yet another trials day, this time at Navan in the Ten Up Novice Chase. TOMORROW: Daqman’s views on all the trials are contained in more of his Cheltenham Cavalry horses to follow.

BALLYOISIN TO STEAL IT FROM THIEF

2.40 Navan (Flyingbolt Novice Chase) It’s 53 years since Flyingbolt won a bumper at Navan on the way to an amazing career of great variety, taking the Champion Chase, the Arkle and the Irish Grand National over fences after the Supreme Novice Hurdle and the Irish Champion Hurdle. He was officially rated only 1lb behind Arkle.

Today the Fighting Fifth winner Identity Thief has to give weight all round in a bid to regain his form over fences, and the highly-rated Fairyhouse scorer, Ballyoisin, could make his mark in this as a future star.

Ball d’Arc was impressive in the Dan Moore Memorial at Fairyhouse and is the equal of Identity Thief on autumn form but Ballyoisin is the apple of Enda Bolger’s eye, and getting 9lb from Identity Thief gives him the chance to steal this prize.

3.10 Navan (Boyne Hurdle) Sutton Place (Gordon Elliott) swerved the Newbury Hurdle and then what seemed to be a match with Jezki over 2m yesterday but Elliott ‘got Jezki’ at 5-2 on with another from his yard, Tombstone.

Sutton Place now moves up from his 2m hat-trick to this 2m 5f, with plenty of stamina on the dam’s side. Two and a half miles will also be the target now for Tombstone in the Aintree Hurdle.

Renneti was runner-up to Jezki here at Navan over 2m and is Ruby Walsh’s ride over Thomas Hobson, with his breeding indicative of stamina for this.

RESPECT COULD FLY BY FLY AT 11.5

4.10 Navan (Ten Up Novice Chase) I was having a bad Cheltenham and ready to give the game up altogether, when I spotted the Ladbrokes odds man near the Pressroom. He gave me 3-1 and Ten Up won the Gold Cup at 2-1; otherwise I might not be here now!

Only Anibale Fly (holds Haymount) has won already at this trip, and he’s scored on his local course here at Navan three times. All the others, barring Acapella Bourgeois, have been successful only at a low level.

Acapella was Grade-2 as a hurdler but is already 2lb higher over fences and was close enough to Bellshill in a 3m hurdle at the Punchestown festival to suggest that today’s trip over fences would be well within his compass.

Jestream Jack and Below Mome have performed well enough in good company but without exciting me to back either of them here.

Another local horse, Road To Respect has the potential to surprise for Gigginstown at 11.5 in the BETDAQ orange early mouse. Well behind Acapella Boureois over hurdles but an immediate winner first time over fences, switched to the Noel meade yard.

Related to Road To Riches, the Gold Cup third, today’s trip could further transform him, dropping down in company today after three consecutive Grade-1 events, including the Drinmore.

JOHNSON NAPPED AT RASEN RACES

3.00 Market Rasen Leading jockey on the course, Richard Johnson, can go 40 winners clear in the Jump-jockeys tables on Castafiore, who looks ideally placed in her first handicap for in-form Charlie Longsdon. A 3.0 nap on BETDAQ this morning.

3.50 Ffos Las Here’s another class-3 chase, won last year by Peter Bowen, who saddles Pearl Swan off the same mark as when he won over CD in November, despite a 33-lengths success at Southwell since (say that quickly when you’re half way through the champagne!). I took 3.4.
