FOLLOW KING BUT QUENTIN’S ACE: Daqman picks an ace across the cards at Chelmsford, Fakenham and Warwick today and tries a double whammy, his Dead Man’s Hand of Ace and Eight at the evening fixture. His two strongest bets over jumps are trained by Alan King.

FOUR-CARD DAQ MULTIPLES: Was it wise to give himself 13 chances (ranking in strength from Ace to King to Queen)? He puts four of his cards together for Daq Multiples, but you can shuffle the pack any way you choose, slip in your own wild card or add a big-odds joker.

SAN QUENTIN TO GET YOU OUT OF GAOL

acehACE I may walk out a wiser, weaker man after this exercise in seeking a lone hand to play but San Quentin (5.30 Chelmsford City) looks an ace in the pack to land his second hat-trick inside five months.

As a course-and-distance winner, San Quentin has the edge on Daisy Boy and Dakota City, successful only up to 1m 3f.

A second CD winner, Aumerle, poses a bigger threat, another hat-trick seeker, who improved here last time to beat previous winners. I took 3.75 San Quentin on BETDAQ.

8hEIGHT Aces and eights was the Dead Man’s Hand. But Coorg (6.05 Chelmsford) should keep me alive. Another seeking a hat-trick on the course after a double already this month.

Second favourite Megara has already been hammered eight lengths by Coorg, so must be the lay, though the turn around in weights brings them closer together. Strictly on the book, his fate is still eight to Coorg’s 10.

khKING Alan King, leading trainer at Warwick, has a good hand there today, notably Mia’s Storm (3.30). I’ll talk about her in a minute.

But Willoughby Hedge (2.20) is highly regarded in Kingy’s pack at Barbury Castle, with the trainer – not one to praise donkeys – describing him as ‘a proper horse.’

Don’t worry about top weight. It’s class 4 and this big, strong beast is potentially much better than that.

So far his career has been trumped by injury and, when they got him right at last, he came to win his race at Newbury but tipped up when lying second near the finish in a big field.

The mare, Princess Tara, could bounce back in thie marathon hurdle (2.55 Warwick), a very open race, in which Battle Dust is consistent.

But I took 8.8 Knight Of The Realm. Couldn’t cope with a quick return after scoring at Exeter in November but staying on well at Ascot on the last day and this son of stamina-potent Kayf Tara should be in his element, now stepped up to 3m 2f. Knight can be king for a day.

Bears Rails looks a danger on form but his career was confined to going with ‘good’ in the return after a double flop on soft-heavy at the turn of last year.

MIA CAN BLOW UP A STORM AT WARWICK

queenhQUEEN Girly Girl (2.00 Fakenham) plummets four grades here from Listed level and should be able to resume the front-running ways which brought her victories at Plumpton and Worcester.

On her Plumpton defeat of Catherine’s Well, she deserves a rating of around 130. Compare that with the 7lb-higher-in-the-weights Road To Freedom and Weststreet, and she could well have over a stone in hand.

The ground is drying out in the sunshine, and the dreaded description ‘heavy’ should be dropped from both Fakenham and Warwick by the time they line up this afternoon.

If Girly Girl is a decent gambit to play from a poor pack today, Mia’s Storm (3.30 Warwick), in the mares’ novices hurdle, looks a picture card, a strong candidate for the race and likely to have a future.

Mia’s Storm, bought at Cheltenham after winning a 3m Point impressively in Ireland, has had niggling problems but ran well in a bumper in December.

She reverts to 3m in her first hurdle contest here with seemingly little to beat barring Surtee Du Berlais, who was not disgraced trying Listed class on the last day.
