THREE NAPS WIN OUT OF FIVE: Daqman had a 50% strike rate yesterday with two winners from four bets, Zack Mayo (WON 11-4) plus his third winning nap from the last five, Zaman (WON 15-8). His naps sequence is:

WON 5-2 AFRICAN FRIEND (Saturday banker nap)

THREE BANKERS OUT OF FOUR: The two bankers gave him three out of four, following a gold banker at Royal Ascot, Caravaggio (WON 5-6). Today’s nap is at Brighton.

AN EARLY WEEKEND WINNER

3.30 Hamilton This new handicap is like an old handicap. There’s a huge weight parameter of 18lb; huge that is by modern standards.

In the good old bad old days, trainers would plot to get a low pitch into a handicap worth a decent prize. Today they are lucky to get a run at all!

But there’s no fluke about this genuine class 2. All bar Ionization and Gulf Of Poets have raced at this level before and Poets is on a five-timer today (which, incidentally, has cost him a 20lb rise and he has to leap two grades). Both are well drawn.

Despite her narrow defeat at Haydock, I can’t have Ionization. In fact, the handicapper has dropped her a pound for that and she’s hardly moved in the ratings in four runs now.

Nicholas T made the two-grade leap from class-4 to class-2 success, both at Ayr. This is a quite different track, right-handed for one thing.

So I’m siding with Weekend Offender, a York winner at this level in the autumn who ran an even better race when third on his reappearance to Victoria Cup runner-up George William and Epsom Mile scorer at the Derby meeting, G K Chesterton.

DON’T MISS PRESCOTT PLOT

4.00 Hamilton After one run gelded, Wordsearch dramatically steps up in trip. We have to assume that trainer Hugo Palmer knows something we don’t know.

I see one or two in the Press saying that he makes the long trek to Scotland with one runner, because they have missed – or went to press too early to know – that another from the same box won for Hugo on the track late last night, which also explains why the Racing Post has him 0-0 in the course-trainer’s list.

4.45 Brighton If only you could catch one of Sir Mark Prescott’s sequence winners right at the beginning of their winning run..

Well, you just might with Miss Mirabeau, who was behind four subsequent winners in a hot maiden on the last day.

Sir Mark has decent strike rates for first-time blinkers (33%), handicap debutant(e)s (21%) and runners at Brighton (25% last season). You have the three in one with this filly.

6.10 Chepstow Ralph Beckett with four two-year-old turf winners this year could have a first-timer here with Breath Caught.
Leeshaan has to give 7lb to all, and the only other yard doing well (3 juvenile winners) sends out Deadly Reel, beaten only two heads at Wetherby by Indomeneo.

Indomeneo had earlier run second at Carlisle to the Coventry Stakes winner, with three other winners behind.

There’s an old saying in racing ‘it’s what you beat not what beats you’ but Deadly Reel is a bet at the weights, with Breath Caught the danger, opposing Leeshaan.
