With the EPL not back until Saturday, we are hitting the continent to find the best betting options across Europe midweek.

Spain delivers a repeat of the Champions League final in the Copa del Rey as Atletico Madrid host Real Madrid on Wednesday night. The market is terribly quiet in the early going but I expect matters to pick up quickly with the return of a certain Mr Torres to the Vincente Calderon. With the two Madrid clubs once again locked in a three way chase for La Liga with Barcelona, the chance to land some psychological blows will be on the minds of both sides in this one.

The early market is, as it so often does, massively underestimating the home side. Real have the superstars but this Atletico team seems to keep itself together irrespective of the ins and outs of the transfer market. Having won La Liga last year, reclaiming the Copa del Rey is high on the agenda this season. The price on the home side is simply too good to ignore in this one. Take Atletico at 3.55 for the upset on Wednesday night.

Barcelona’s challenge on Thursday is far less daunting as Elche, the bottom club in La Liga, make the daunting trip to the Camp Nou. After a stunning loss to Real Sociedad, now managed by David Moyes, on Sunday the pressure is on the Blaugrana to respond with style in this encounter. It is far from easy to find value in this market, with everyone expecting a venomous response from Barca on Thursday night. The best place to look is at the totals where two bets jump out. Over 3.5 goals looks more than reasonable at 1.78 but it’s still a touch too conservative for me. I’m going the extra mile and backing the home side to run riot. Take over 4.5 goals at 2.84 and back Barca to take care of business big time.

Finally we turn our attention to Serie A where, once again, Juventus look to be marching towards yet another title. Tuesday is a public holiday in Italy and with a full round of games it’s Juve’s home game with Inter Milan that takes top billing. Inter have been in miserable form since the end of October and they languish in mid-table. Juventus look a safe pick to add to their misery, with
12 wins from 16 outings so far. Take Juventus/Juventus on the half-time/full-time at 2.28.
