EMMET RYAN’s sensational form continued during the Champions League fixtures earlier this week as he correctly predicted 5 out 6 results on three separate bets. Today he looks ahead to the feature games in the Premier League and predicts an upset in one of the big games.

It feels like weeks since we’ve had a genuinely tasty clash to ponder in EPL betting, even though Arsenal’s loss to Man United was only a week ago. Sunday pits overachieving Southampton against Man City in a clash of second and third at St Mary’s.

Southampton are getting a bit of a Liverpool bounce this season, benefiting greatly from the absence of midweek football to go all guns blazing in the league. City have, as ever, endured their usual struggles in the Champions League but Sergio Aguero came up big last Tuesday to keep their hopes of progress alive. How big the hangover City have from that game is the big question for bettors to ponder.

On talent alone, this should be City’s game at 2.36 but we all know there’s a reason this team is third and losing sight of Chelsea in the title chase. The Half-time/Full-time bets have been great value the past few weeks and there’s a big one on the board for this one. Southampton will be fresher for this game and I like them to get on the board first but City have enough to escape unscathed. That makes Southampton/Draw tremendous value at 16.

Sunderland would have at least hoped that Chelsea would head north after a bit of a challenge in the Champions League. Unfortunately for the Black Cats, it couldn’t have been an easier night for Jose Mourinho’s squad as they routed Schalke on Tuesday. With the chance to put pressure on both of their nearest rivals at the top of the table, expect Chelsea to come out firing in this one. That should help find some value in a market where Chelsea are, understandably, heavy favourites. The best bet on the board is with the Asian handicap where Mourinho’s men can be had at 2.48 for -1.5/2.

Pitch invaders will be the least of Spurs’ worries when they host Everton in White Hart Lane on Sunday. Despite both teams coming in off Europa League action, only one has that oh so special reputation for laying an egg the weekend after their European exploits. Some day Tottenham’s brain trust will learn that their fans would be happy with Spurs fielding 11 lads they found in a pub if it meant the first team was rested for a league game. Fortunately for bettors there’s no sign of that day coming soon. Go with Everton all the way, straight up to win at 3.2.
