EMMET RYAN SCANS ENGLAND & SPAIN FOR THE BEST VALUE: The big game of the night is in White Hart Lane but we’ve hunted far, wide, and into my own past, to find you the best value this week.

Starting off with that Capital One Cup semi-final there are a couple of important questions that need answering. First off, is either of these teams called Bradford? No. Secondly, is either of these teams called Aston Villa? No again. Forget romance, this isn’t the freak situation from a couple of seasons ago when Villa found a way to miss out on a trip to Wembley. This is not 2015 and Spurs are not a walking disaster that is meant to pass for a football team.

No this is Tottenham ‘We seem to actually know what we are doing’ Hotspur. It’s a strange, near uncomfortable place, but there really is no reason to doubt Spurs. In seasons past the argument that ‘Spurs will find a way’ would give ample reason to back the underdog but Sheffield Utd simply aren’t in the same class. It’s not just smart to back Spurs to win, they should win comfortably. Bettors should get all over the Asian Handicap here and back Spurs -1.5 at 1.98.

Having bested Real Madrid last time out in the Copa del Rey, Atletico Madrid now face the challenge of going to the Camp Nou to take on a supposedly resurgent Barcelona side in the quarter finals. Oh Betdaq punters, all of you, bring it in. We need the biggest celebratory hug ever. The mugs have bought it. They actually think Barca’s problems have gone away because of a few good results against terrible football teams. Rejoice my friends for there is value to be had and it’s all with the visitors. Yes, the Camp Nou isn’t an easy place to go and win but we all know from last season that it holds no fear for the reigning La Liga champions. Let’s go after this one, back Atletico at 6.8 for the upset.

Finally we turn our eyes to a game that holds a bit of personal interest for me. Back in the summer of 2011. Villarreal came to the UCD Bowl for a friendly with Santi Cazorla and World Cup winner Joan Capdevila in their ranks. They fell 4-3 to UCD with yours truly on commentary calling out King Juan Carlos and Julio Iglesias amongst others following an epic upset at the hands of the Students. Things got worse for Villarreal but my how they have gotten better since. The little club that could is now the little club that WILL demolish Levante in the first leg of this quarter final. Back Villarreal -1.5 on the Asian Handicap at 1.88.
