The Christmas madness is finally over so bettors can hope, if not necessarily expect, some return to normality this weekend…oh no wait it’s the FA Cup third round. Time to find some value amongst the madness.
Sunday’s big one in the Emirates is a repeat of last year’s FA Cup Final as Arsenal host Hull. Once again the cup is the best chance for silverware for the Gunners this season but don’t expect them to have it easy in this one. Hull may not be setting the world alight in EPL betting of late but they remain a decent organised team and one craving the break from regular league action. The upside however for Arsenal is that for all of Hull’s desire for a distraction, they still need to focus on avoiding the drop. That could well see them take their foot off the gas a touch in this one.
In terms of value, the outright isn’t going to help out much here but there are a couple of options with Arsenal that I find appealing. The half-time/full-time of Arsenal/Arsenal at 1.85 overs some appeal but the one I’m going for here is the Asian Handicap at -1.5 where the Gunners are a good bet at 1.95.
The best value bet on the board this weekend comes where you would least expect it. Man City host Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday and, in a shock to roughly no-one, the home team are big favourites to pick up the win. This game isn’t about the outright for anyone sane and for me it’s about what City need. City need a trophy badly this season and their route to silverware is challenging across the board. Like Arsenal, this is their best shot and I like them to come out firing on all cylinders. That’s why I’m taking City at 2 on the -2/2.5 Asian Handicap.
Finally, there’s an unwritten rule that Wimbledon vs Liverpool has to be mentioned at least once in ever FA Cup column this weekend and betting tipsters are no exception. The Crazy Gang are absolute rank outsiders in this one but didn’t we all say that back in 1988? Admittedly this one is a touch different in terms of the gulf in class and that’s why romance has no place when it comes to making a bet. I’m going to be a late-season Grinch and go with Liverpool at 2.04 at -2 on the Asian Handicap.
