EURO 2016 SATURDAY: Three matches on Saturday. At 2pm it’s BELGIUM v REPUBLIC OF IRELAND, 5pm ICELAND v HUNGARY and 8pm PORTUGAL v AUSTRIA. We preview each game.

Belgium v Ireland

2pm A massive game for both sides here. Belgium are in desperate need of a win after losing to Italy, and after Italy beat Sweden yesterday, the result here will go a long way to deciding who goes through along with Italy who top the group on six points – another interesting angle in the group is will Italy rest players for the last game with Ireland next week given they are already through? Anyway we’ll leave that to next week, let’s try find some value in this game!

Republic of Ireland were superb against Sweden and really should have won – they suffered from sitting back a shade after going ahead and inviting Sweden onto them, something which they do quite a lot when ahead so while we don’t expect Ireland to win, we still think Belgium are a terrible price at 1.9 – they were really poor against Italy in the first game and we would much rather lay 1.9 than back it.

BETDAQ best bet:
Lay Belgium at 1.9.

  • The sides haven’t faced each other since 1997 though.
  • Belgium have conceded at least one goal in each of their last eight games.
  • Robbie Keane last scored 11 goals in his last 13 starts for Ireland (Will he start with Walters out?)

Iceland v Hungary

5pm Two teams who surprised many in the first games, and a very open market with Iceland 2.76, Hungary 3.1 and the draw 3.15 as we type. We see this game being very close, and it’s hard to pick a winner – Iceland have lost just once in their last seven matches while Hungary have only lost two in their last 13 – we lean slightly towards Hungary as they did a good job on Austria beating them while Iceland’s performance against Portugal was more about defending than attacking and maybe that’s where the difference will be today.

With Iceland’s defending in mind, under 2.5 goals would be at the top of your list for bets, however it looks a bit short for backing at around the 1.52 mark and we’re happy to steer clear of that market. We think the best bet is in the draw-no-bet market, where Hungary are 2.16 – Iceland are no doubt solid at the back however we feel Hungary can offer more going forward compared to Iceland and thus are happy to back 2.16.

BETDAQ best bet:
Hungary draw-no-bet to beat Iceland at 2.16.

Portugal v Austria

8pm The big question, do you trust Portugal enough to back them at 2.0? And trust is the right word to use, a team full of talent – but can’t be relied upon to deliver. We think that on balance here, there is more value in backing them at 2.0 than laying. On another night, they would have easily beaten Iceland – they had 26 shots that night, the most of any of the first round of games, surely another performance should see off an Austrian side who were very disappointing against Hungary.

And speaking of number of shots, it was now been 28 shots since Austria last found the back of the net, and have lost three of their last four matches now – the win coming in a friendly against Malta were they conceded too. So on balance Portugal should be able to win, providing their stars turn up!

BETDAQ best bet:
Portugal to beat Austria at 2.0.

Football-Portugal

Some Portugal v Austria facts:

  • Ronaldo has taken 34 freekicks at goal at a major tournament for Portugal, and scored none.
  • This is Portugal and Austria’s first meeting at a major tournament.
  • Portugal had 26 shots against Iceland, more than any other side in their opening Euro 2016 game.
