EUROPA LEAGUE THURSDAY: We preview Thursday’s Europa League games between ROSTOV v MAN U and LYON v ROMA with a recommended BETDAQ bet in each.

ROSTOV V MANCHESTER UNITED

6pm Manchester United would have been bitterly disappointed not to beat a ten man Bounrmeouth side after going into HT at 1-1, and it’s now looking like they’ll need the Europa League to get into the Champions League next season. United have been playing very well lately, although struggling to score at times, and we can expect a decent showing from them tonight.

It’s harder to know what to expect for Rostov though. The Russian league was on their winter break, so they had their first league game in three months to warm up for this up, and they did so impressively – beating one of the small sides 6-0. A better guide might be looking at Rostov’s games in their Champions League group this season and their last Europa League tie.

They got here by thrashing Sparta Prague 4-0 at home before drawing 1-1 in the second leg. While even more impressively they beat Bayern Munich 3-2 in their Champions League group at home, they also held PSV to draw while Atletico could only win 1-0. So we can expect a very tough night in store for United, and looking at Rostov’s form at home, United certainly look a good value lay at 1.86.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see United go into this game with the mindset of getting back to Old Trafford and winning the game there. However as we seen with Spurs against Gent, that mindset can easily backfire. Under 2.5 goals appeals at 1.68 in what should be a pretty tight game, but we prefer the United lay at 1.86 – Rostov have put in some good results at home against sides just as good, if not better, than United so we can expect a tough night for Jose Mourinho’s men.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Manchester United at 1.86.

LYON V ROMA

8.05pm This is one of the ties of this round. Roma face a tough ask tonight away to this Lyon side, as Lyon put seven past AZ Alkmaar at home in the last round! They were also reasonably good in the Champions League here too, they drew with Sevilla and only lost 1-0 to Juve. Roma will probably approach this one with caution in mind, and the although Lyon have been high scorers under 2.5 goals looks pretty big at 2.68 or bigger.

It’s a very open betting market in the match odds market – with Lyon 2.54, Roma 2.92 and the draw 3.7 at the time of writing. We feel that this one will be really close, and the draw appeals a lot at 3.7 in what could be a classic example of two sides cancelling each other out. However, over 2.5 goals definitely looks too short given that this is a first leg and we can’t see either side going too gun-ho from the start, so we’re happy to back under 2.5 goals at 2.68.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Under 2.5 goals at 2.68.
