PREMIER LEAGUE THURSDAY: A rare Thursday evening game and it couldn’t be much bigger… the Manchester derby ! We preview the match with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MANCHESTER CITY V MANCHESTER UNITED

8pm The Manchester Derby is always a great occasion and tonight should prove no different! City are odds on favourites, with the match market odds at the time of writing; City 1.95, United 4.4 and the draw 3.75.

You’d have to say that after losing the FA Cup semi-final to Arsenal at the weekend, it has been a bitterly disappointing first season in charge for Pep Guardiola. Big things were expected, and they just haven’t arrived. They have a poor record against the top seven in the Premier League this season, only winning two of the 11 clashes. And maybe the game on Sunday against Arsenal summed up their season – they led with half an hour to go, and couldn’t get the job done.

On the red side of Manchester, you can see that Jose Mourinho is improving things. They’re currently on a 23 game unbeaten run in the league – drawing at home has been their problem though, and the reason why they aren’t higher in the table. However, they’re away form has been very good – they’ve won seven of their last eight in the league.

We feel that City look short here at 1.95, United are decent away from home, are on a good run, and City’s record against the top sides isn’t good. However, without Zlatan and a few others, they simply aren’t at full strength and it’s highly likely that Mourinho will be happy with a draw here – as he is in most big games. We see United coming with mostly defensive tactics and while the City lay is very tempting at the odds, under 2.5 goals at odds against makes more appeal. It’s currently trading 2.12 which looks very big – we can see this one being very cagey and tactical.
