SHAMROCK NAMED THREE WINNERS AT GALWAY YESTERDAY TO KEEP HIS HEAD ABOVER WATER: And there was a lot of water! The going is now heavy as we look at day five of the meeting.

Another tough day on Thursday at Galway – my regret was just having a place stake on opening 5/1 winner Golden Wonder.

A seven race card tonight which gets underway at 5.05p,….

5:05 Guinness 17:59 E.B.F. Median Auction Maiden (2yo, 7f, 9 runners)

The ground will be the biggest factor in all the races today and I’m hardly in a rush to back Backdrop at short prices here. All of these two-year-olds are inexperienced on ground as testing as this and the seven furlongs will be a real slog. In the circumstances, Captain Moonlight, who is relatively experienced, does at least have form on soft ground and looks far too big at double figure odds in the BETDAQ market.

SELECTION: Captain Moonlite (WIN and PLACE)

5:40 Arthur Guinness Handicap (50-70) (3yo, 1m 100y, 11 runners)

Another ground quandary or should that be quagmire? Snakes And Ladders is the favourite but has disappointed before in heavy ground. I’ll try a low risk place lay on him here.

SELECTION: Snakes And Ladders (PLACE LAY)

6:15 Guinness E.B.F. Maiden (3yo, 1m 4f, 5 runners)

Calibrate and Roman Romance are two interesting debutants but the percentage call must be with Agreement who has had two starts and most importantly handled heavy ground well when narrowly beaten at Tipperary in May. He gets the nap vote.

SELECTION: Agreement (NAP)

6:50 Guinness Handicap (3yo+, 1m 4f, 11 runners)

The layers are tempting me in here on Kingdom at around 6 on BETDAQ. The Aidan O’Brien trained runner already has winning form on heavy ground, stays well and runs from the front. That combination of factors makes him very interesting here.

SELECTION: Kingdom

7:25 Guinness Race (4yo+, 1m 6f, 8 runners)

Forget Unaccompanied’s Leopardstown defeat. This is much more her ground today and she should be able to make her class tell in a race that looks hers for the taking.

SELECTION: Unaccompanied

7:55 Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase (4yo+, 2m 6f, 21 runners)

It’s already been a great week for JP McManus and Bruff looks to have win and place claims here in a wide open handicap chase.

SELECTION: Bruff (WIN and PLACE)

8:25 Guinness (Q.R.) Handicap Hurdle (88-109) (4yo+, 2m 2f, 23 runners)

We got a great run from win and place selection Admiral Hawke here on Monday (finishing second) and given this looks an easier contest I have to stay loyal.

SELECTION: Admiral Hawke

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
5.05 Captain Moonlite (WIN and PLACE)
5.40 Snakes And Ladders (PLACE LAY)
6.15 Agreement (NAP)
6.50 Kingdom
7.25 Unaccompanied
7.55 Bruff (WIN and PLACE)
8.25 Admiral Hawke
