SHAMROCK NOW 6 WINNING BETS FROM LAST 8: SHAMROCK’S high strike rate continued on Sunday when his NAP The Paparrazi Kid WON 9/10 at Limerick. No Irish racing on Monday so he looks back at Flemenstar’s win yesterday.

Flemenstar made a winning debut for Tony Martin as he landed the Fortria Chase at Navan for the second year running.

However althought the 1/4 favourite’s backers picked up their winnings, it was not the kind of success that many will have hoped for from the dual Grade One winner, who left previous trainer Peter Casey at the end of last season.

Not only did Flemenstar jump over-exuberantly at some of his fences, but having tried to do the bare minimum on board to ensure success. jockey Andrew Lynch ended up having to ask the winner to quickly up his game as runner-up Days Hotel closed rapdily on the run-in.

Having been in front all the way, he was probably just idling close home, but nevertheless the one-and-a-quarter-length winning margin over a markedly inferior rival was not entirely auspicious.

Lynch said: “He was just a bit fresh with his jumping and he got a bit high at a couple of them.

“We went plenty quick enough and I had to keep going with him the way he was jumping, it was just a bit big.

“He was a bit like that this time last year, though, his first run back is always a little bit ring-rusty.

“He picked up after the last. It wasn’t ideal getting there that early but his jumping took him there.

“You’d have to be excited about the future.
