PAUSE UNTIL DUNDALK: No Irish racing until Dundalk on Wednesday. SHAMROCK looks back at the featured action from Fairyhouse on Sunday.

We’ll never know with Sunday’s NAP Peace News who was a faller in the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse. He was sent off the 7/4 favourite and still very much in contention before coming to grief at the second last.

The race was was won by Airlie Beach who extended her unbeaten record to seven when getting the better of stable companion Saturnas to give the owners a 1-2.

Winning trainer Willie Mullins said after the race: ”She jumped really well compared to my other two. Plan A worked for her anyway.

“We planned to jump off up there and take the race by the scruff of the neck, which she did, and she’s a mare that keeps improving.

“I never dreamt that she’d be a Grade One mare. It’s an extraordinary result for her and for Supreme Racing. She’s a fantastic jumper and gallops all day.”

Mullins suffered a reversal in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle when Vroum Vroum Mag’s long winning run narrowly came to an end at the hands of Apple’s Jade who prevailed by a short head.

Gordon Elliott, trainer of Apple’s Jade, had three in the seven runner Drinmore Novice Chase but they finished 5th, 6th and pulled up.

Coney Island travelled well to gain a first win over fences.
