SHAMROCK DOUBLE UP AS DAVY REFUSES TO QUIT ON ‘QUITO’: Shamrock followed up his Friday nap, The Real Article (WON 5-4), with The Minack (WON 11-4) yesterday, doubled with the never-say-die winner, Quito De La Roque (WON 11-4), whose jockey, Davy Russell, had to work overtime all the way round in the Down Royal Champion Chase. Quito was offered at 280.0 in running.

It’s a fabulous day to play up your Irish winnings. Those with a big bag of euros after Ballydoyle’s Breeders’ Cup triumphs have two meetings at home, with races to please every pocket.

LEOPARDSTOWN: It’s all down to the last day in the jockeys’ title race with Johnny Murtagh leaving nothing to chance with six rides, though he leads six-times-champion Pat Smullen 81-78.

Whether it goes to the wire or not, the very last race, the November Handicap, may be a head-to-head between them.

Dermot Weld, successful in the race two years ago with Hidden Universe (Smullen) and John Oxx with last year’s winner, What A Charm (Murtagh) look a cut above the field.

What A Charm has since won a Listowel Listed and 10.0 on the Daq this morning was an alluring Charm!

CORK: There’s a drying wind, but the Cork Grand National will need plenty of stamina on soft ground, and we’re likely to see a ride very different to the Champion Chase grind from Davy Russell on Indifference Curve, who has only got 2m 6f so far.

Davy can land my nap on the highly regarded Sword Of Destiny (1.40), then it’s a case of preserving Indifference Curve until the business end of the ‘National.’

But he was staying on at Roscommon and Galway on heavy and had Droim Toll, a 3m 5f winner at Fairyhouse, behind him on his seasonal debut.

Another Palm was also backward when seen out at Naas over hurdles for the first time since May.

It was a better return for Elysian Rock when fourth at Limerick, though the consistent For A Finish was hampered in that race.

But I shall get involved with the bottom half of the handicap on this ground: jockey bookings suggest that Another Palm under Paul Carberry (7.4 on Betdaq as I write) and Droim Toll for Paul Townend (a fantastic 24.0) are the ones to be on.
