NAVAN ON HOLD UNTIL TUESDAY: Navan’s card from today has been put back until Tuesday.

The place element of Saturday’s nap Ibsen (2nd 4/1) ensured some damage limitation but he was absolutely no match for the easy winning favourite Djakadam at Gowran Park.

Navan manager Darren Lawlor reports no problems as the Co. Meath track looks forward to hosting a strong Graded race card on Tuesday.

The eight race card, with four Grade 2 events including the Red Mills Chase transferred from Gowran Park, was originally set to take place today but officials decided on Friday to put it back by 48 hours due to waterlogging.

“Things at the moment are looking grand. The forecast is for a dry couple of days so, touch wood, we should be okay,” said Lawlor this morning.

“At this stage, while you hate to say you’d be confident and you never really know what the weather might do, we don’t foresee any problems. We should be fine.”

The decision to cancel today’s meeting on Friday and move it to Tuesday took many by surprise but Lawlor explains, “We had just over 50mm of rain from Monday evening onwards. We were then forecast to be dry from Thursday but another band of rain that night on already wet ground just pushed us over the edge.

“We were then forecast to get some more rain on Friday night into Saturday, so we decided the most prudent thing to do was give everyone plenty of notice and go with Tuesday.

“We were conscious that there were other meetings on and similar types of races. It gives us our best chance of putting on a cracking card, and there should be plenty of Cheltenham pointers to be had.

“Admission will be ten euro for everyone which also includes a racecard. With four Grade 2 races it should be a great day, and the first of eight races starts at 1.40pm.”
