5/2 WINNING NAP FOR SHAMROCK: SHAMROCK landed a 5/2 winning nap with Pink Coat at Fairyhouse. He was delighted but couldn’t believe the final price – it was 8 on BETDAQ at the time of selection! Now for a brilliant Fairyhouse on Sunday.
Pink Coat landed the nap on Saturday at Fairyhouse at 5/2 – a long way south of the 8 on BETDAQ when the column was published – but hope you were on.
Three Grade 1’s at Fairyhouse on Sunday and it’s an early start with the card beginning at 12.10 on good to yielding ground.
12:40 Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 10 runners) How refreshing it is to see a Grade 1 with such a competitive betting look to it. The BETDAQ market says it all – 5 the field. Alonso is the one I’m keen on most. The Willie Mullins trained runner, who was bred in Spain, cantered clear to win on debut at Wexford by 23 lengths. It’s impossible to read too much into the bare form of that now that he is pitched in at Grade 1 level but the second in the race has gone on to win since and notably Ruby rides this one in preference to the other two Willie Mullins trained runners in the race.
1:10 Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 6 runners) Another cracker in prospect and I’m taking Sizing Rio to complete a chasing hat-trick. He seems to have taken really well to the larger obstacles and has had two bloodless wins at Tipperary and Cork. This represents a big step-up in class but he was a Grade 3 winner over hurdles and could well be a better animal over fences.
2:15 Bar One Racing Hatton’s Grace Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 5 runners) Not the best renewal of this race and it looks at the mercy of Jezki who should be able to cope with the step up in distance. He jumped really well on his come back win at Down Royal.
