KNOCKING ON THE DOOR: SHAMROCK’s NAP on Saturday, First Lieutenant, was second at 7/1. He’s back at Leopardstown on Sunday for the three Graded races on the card.

A good run from First Lieutenant is the Lexus yesterday but he was caught close home by Bobs Worth.

Back to Leopardstown today for the three Graded races:

2:00 Ryanair Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 5 runners) A thrilling renewal in which Hurricane Fly will start at a bigger price than he did when winning this in 2010 and 2012. He will need to do better today than he did on his reappearance at Punchestown when having to work harder than his 1/16 starting price suggested he should have done when winning the Morgiana Hurdle. He has two seriously good and younger rivals today in the shape of Our Conor and Jezki. Our Conor was incredibly impressive when winning the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and has had a warm-up spin on the flat since then, whilst Jezki comes into this having beaten yesterday’s big race winner Zaidpour in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse. Despite the challenge – I’m sticking with the Hurricane.

2:35 IFG E.B.F. Mares Hurdle (Grade 3) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 7 runners) This can quickly be narrowed down to three runners – the Mullins duo of Upsie and Urticaire and the recent Navan winner Jennies Jewel. Upsie is favourite but her jumping is unreliable and that might make the difference. Urticaire was impressive when winning her maiden at Navan and can handle the step up in trip.

3:05 Topaz Novice Chase (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 3m, 7 runners) An interesting renewal but the logical selection has to be Morning Assembly who out-battled Don Cossack in a thrilling finish to the Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown last time out. He was a Grade One winner over hurdles and is already well on the way to repeating the feat over fences.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Urticaire (2.35 Leopardstown)
NEXT BEST: Hurricane Fly (2.00 Leopardstown)
TREBLE: Morning Assembly (3.05 Leopardstown)
