LADBROKES TROYTOWN CHASE DAY: SHAMROCK looks at the two big races on the Navan card on Sunday.
Big day of racing at Navan where there has been no overnight rain and the ground is now soft. A dry but cold day is forecast (it is late November !!).
I’m having bets in the two feature races:
1:10 ‘Monksfield’ Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 9 runners)
Gordon Elliott and Noel Meade have won the last five renewals between them and Elliott will bid to maintain that monopoly with with Cogryhill who looks the pick of his two runners (Meade no representative this year). Cogryhill is still lightly raced and in many ways hard to assess having had just the one start over hurdles. That was at Down Royal where he made all to win a maiden hurdle at 2/7. The fact that he is the Bryan Cooper pick over Dallas Cowboy (easy winner at Wexford last time out) says a lot in terms of what they think Cogryhill could be capable of. It’s a competitive renewal with Falcon Crest and DAQMAN’s nap Ten Times Better arriving in winning form.
2:40 Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase (0-150) (Grade B) (4yo+, 3m, 12 runners)
Gordon Elliott also won this last year but has pulled out two of his four runners and he may struggle with the two he has left in. I like the look of the hat-trick seeking Tulsa Jack who although has been upped 9lb in the handicap could still run a big race. There’s no guessing how in front of the handicapper he could be judged by his effortless 12 length win in the Cork Grand National last time out also run on soft ground. There could easily be further egg on the handicapper’s face. I’m playing win and place on BETDAQ.
