MULLINS MORGIANA MONOPOLY TO CONTINUE: Willie Mullins has won the last five runnings of the Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown and it looks to extend to six today.

You get the feeling that Willie Mullins wants to keep his stranglehold on the Morgiana Hurdle. The champion trainer has won the last five runnings – three of them with the superlative Hurricane Fly – and saddles three of the five runners in the the 2016 renewal.

Last year’s winner Nichols Canyon looks set to go back to back. He caused one of the shocks of last season when beating 1/6 stable companion Faugheen in this last year and that remains the only defeat on Faugheen’s 13 race CV.

Nichols Canyon went on to win another Grade 1 at Leopardstown but was a well beaten third to Faugheen in the Irish Champion Hurdle and filled the same spot in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham behind Annie Power. He was beaten even further by Annie Power at Aintree and races for the first time since then.

He seems to go well fresh and should be ready for this – he’s comfortably rated the best in the race and I am taking him to beat Jer’s Girl who looks the only one capable of spoiling the Mullins party.
