IRISH ACTION AT TIPPERARY: With colleague DAQMAN covering the French action in full in his preview today SHAMROCK is staying at home for the excellent mixed card at Tipperary.
There’s a Group 3 on the flat and three Graded races over the jumps at Tipperary this afternoon.
2:30 Coolmore Stud Home Of Champions Concorde Stakes (Group 3) (3yo+, Class 1, 7f 100y, 10 runners)
Dermot Weld has enjoyed a terrific record in this race with four of the last five winners. He has a solid chance this year too with Tested (he also runs Stormfly) who won the Coolmore Stud Fairy Bridge Stakes over course and distance last time out. That was on really similar ground as today and she is sure to take plenty of beating. Sole British raider is Sovereign Debt who was second to Balty Boys at Haydock last time out and the David Nicholls trained runner looks the danger.
3:45 Istabraq Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 6 runners)
A disappointing renewal with question marks against all of the six runners to some extent. Thomas Edison has to be given the vote as he was mightily unlucky last time out when falling at the last in the Galway Hurdle in his attempt to repeat his win of 2014. Captain Cee Bee won this as a 12-year-old in 2013 so don’t let age put you off Thousand Stars who looks the danger.
4:15 Dolores Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 7 runners)
Bachasson has won his three Irish starts by an aggregate of 28 lengths and has yet to be tested since arriving from France. This is his toughest task so far but it will come as a huge shock if the odds on shot is troubled. If you’re backing on BETDAQ (1.51 at the time of writing) don’t forget to nudge up a few ticks and see if your offer is accepted – if it is, it will be a double bonus – you’ll get a better price and have any winnings settled at a flat rate 2%.
5:15 Like A Butterfly Novice Chase (Grade 3) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 4 runners)
Two Gordon Elliott trained runners are now non runners but he can still win it with The Game Changer who looked good when comfortably beating the odds-on Sizing Platinum in a Grade 3 at Roscommon last time out.
