THURLES ON THURSDAY: SHAMROCK heads to Thurles on Thursday for his best bet of the day running in the Devil’s Bit Maiden Hurdle at 3.55.

Alisier D’irlande looks to have an outstanding chance of winning his first hurdle race at Thurles this afternoon in the Devil’s Bit Maiden Hurdle at 3.55.

Running for the first time for Henry de Bromhead having formerly been trained by Phillip Hobbs Alisier D’irlande showed plenty of promise on his hurdles debut at Ascot when third to Arpege D’Alene in November – a race which he was sent off favourite for.

His next effort was a disappointing last of six finishers in a Grade 2 contest at Warwick. He made a few mistakes that day and was soundly beaten but that came over 2m 5f and the combination of a shorter trip (two miles) and a big drop in class should work the oracle.

Whether he’ll ever live up to his £300,000 price tag at the Cheltenham Sales though is already highly debatable !

Later in the afternoon First Lieutenant attempts to regain some form ahead of Aintree in the four runner Thurles Racecourse Hurdle at 4.30.

He is again set for the Bowl at Aintree – a race which he won in 2013.
