ARCTIC TO BOOM IN DOOM: Arctic Fire can gain reward for his remarkable consistency by landing an overdue win in the Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle on Thursday.

From an original entry of four, including Champion Hurdle winner Faugheen, Willie Mullins runs just one – Arctic Fire who was a length and half behind his stable companion Faugheen at Cheltenham.

Whilst Faugheen quite rightly got all the plaudits after the race it was still an excellent run from 20/1 shot Arctic Fire in second who had Hurricane Fly, Jezki and The New One further behind.

Jezki reappears again to give Ireland a strong hand in this Grade 1 prize but Arctic Fire should again confirm the form as I expect him to be equally effective over this longer trip.

Rock On Ruby looks best of the home challengers and comes here a fresh horse having missed Cheltenham at the 11th hour after a dirty scope.

Harry Fry’s horses are running well again – Bitofapuzzle plundered the Grade 1 mares race at Fairyhouse at the weekend and the trainer said: “”Rock On Ruby is right on his ‘A game’ and it is now all systems go for Aintree. It might be a silver lining that he didn’t run over three miles at Cheltenham.”
