13/8 WINNING NAP SHAMROCK ON FIRE: SHAMROCK landed a 13/8 winning NAP from his ONLY BET on Wednesday – FIRE IN HIS EYES at Punchestown.

Fire In His Eyes landed the nap at 13/8 yesterday having looked for a long way to be giving second best to the well backed favourite Bosco Di Alco. The nap needed every yard and could easily be stepped up in trip again by trainer Gordon Elliott given he was doing his best work at the end.

Punchestown race again today with two Grade 3 races on the card:

3:55 Buck House Novice Chase (Grade 3) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 2f, 6 runners)

Gordon Elliott won this last year and has sound claims again with his duo of Lieutenant Colonel and Ball D’Arc who got no further than the first at Fairyhouse before unseating his rider.

Lieutenant Colonel is a Grade 1 winner over hurdles and made a pleasing start to his chasing career at Gowran Park. It might well rekindle his enthusiasm as he just seemed to be struggling in his most recent hurdles runs – all be it at the top level.

The Henry de Bromhead trained Three Stars won well over fences at Listowel but wasn’t in the league of Lieutenant Colonel over hurdles and may have to play second fiddle.

4:30 Irish Daily Star Chase (Grade 3) (5yo+, Class 1, 3m 1f, 6 runners)

Gordon Elliott may complete the big race double with Lord Scoundrel – the winner of the Galway Plate who was also running a massive race before falling in the Kerry National. He should find life a little easier here as long as those two big efforts haven’t left their mark.

Last season’s Ladbrokes Munster winner Sadler’s Risk has finished runner-up in two subsequent outings including over a shorter trip here. He should be cherry ripe now for this and the lack of a recent run may count against Smashing who is officially the best horse in the race.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Lieutenant Colonel (3.55 Punchestown)
NEXT BEST: Lord Scoundrel (4.30 Punchestown)
