IRISH RACING RESUMES AT FAIRYHOUSE: SHAMROCK heads to Fairyhouse on Wednesday and his nap runs in the maiden hurdle at 2.00.
It’s hard to look beyond the chances of the Gordon Elliott trained Squouateur in the maiden hurdle at 2.00. The grey made his debut at Cork in January and at face value didn’t achieve too much in finishing a well beaten fourth of six but it was heavy ground and he should be a different proposition on this better surface. The winner of that race, Walk To Freedom, has also won again since – springing a 50/1 surprise at Punchestown last time out.
Squouateur looks to have very little to beat here. Those that have run have shown very little. So much so, that sole debutant Spring Forward, also owned by JP McManus, probably has to come into the reckoning. He has no flat form so we can only really go on the betting and at the time of writing is not especially strong on BETDAQ.
I wasn’t expecting odds-against about Squouateur so that really does look a bonus in such a weak race.
