DOWN ROYAL LOOMING: No racing in Ireland on Wednesday but there’s not long before the excellent cards at Down Royal on Friday and Saturday.

Racing resumes in Ireland at Thurles on Thursday.

Looking further ahead to the weekend and Down Royal have received an excellent entry for the Grade 1 Jnwine.com Champion Chase.

Final entries are still to be made but the five-day entry of 24 include double King George hero Silviniaco Conti and Don Poli making his debut for Gordon Elliott after the much publicised move from Willie Mullins.

Nicholls (Silviniaco Conti) has a good record in the race winning it four times including with Kauto Star in 2010.

His record in the Grade 2 Titanic Belfast Chase on the same card is even better. He has won it in seven of the last eight years and will be represented on Saturday by Le Mercurey who was a seven length winner of a Grade 2 novice chase at Ayr when last seen in April.
