TESTING GROUND AT NAVAN: It’s soft to heavy for the flat card at Navan on Wednesday – the first meeting of the week in Ireland and the meeting starts with a three runner handicap!

I can’t remember the last time I saw a three runner handicap in Ireland – but that’s how Navan’s Wednesday card starts off. At least it’s competitive with the BETDAQ market struggling to split Freedom Suare and Lady Ultra.

Given both are unproven on ground as soft as this it’s a race I’ll be giving a wide berth too – especially as three runner races can often get very tactical.

The ground is a recurring theme throughout the day, the forecast is for a dry day so hopefully shouldn’t get any more testing.

I am going to play my nap card in the final race, and even if it does rain it won’t problem the selection Quick Jack who relishes the testing ground.

The Tony Martin trained runner comes here at the top of his game and is certainly a versatile performer trip wise. He won a Newmarket handicap in August over 1m 4f and a handicap hurdle over jumps at Listowel (2 miles) last time out.

He also holds an entry for Leopardstown on Saturday and might prove hard to beat on the prevailing surface.
