A WEEK OF EXCELLENT PRICES This week with one of my selections I am going to look outside of the Premier League towards the Championship. Otherwise it is business as usual as there is some really good value to be had on a few bets this weekend.

Preston v Newcastle

3.00pm Saturday This is one I just had to include because of the prices available. It is way too heavy in favour of Newcastle. I know they are the best side in the Championship and are on good form, and of course these sides met in the League Cup during the week which resulted in a 6-0 trashing but I still think these prices are far too high for the home side. They are certainly based on the result midweek, but we must remember that it was the League Cup, and Preston had made five or six changes from a side that had been getting some excellent results lately.

Looking at Preston’s results coming into the League Cup, they were on excellent form themselves. They beat Norwich last weekend, beat a Huddersfield side who were flying it this season. They’ve also drawn with Brighton who are right up at the top of the Championship. This is a good Preston team, who have gotten some big results in the past few weeks. Sure it was a humbling defeat during the week, but sometimes as a punter you have to forget about that and look at the price available. Preston are massively overpriced in this one so I have to look at backing them for a bit, but the Lay is the best bet here.

Lay Newcastle at 1.81

Everton v West Ham

1.30pm Sunday West Ham have really picked up in the past few weeks. To be honest they could not have played much worse, but now they are playing better football. They have shored things up a bit at the back, but it is still a problem area for them. The issue wasn’t entirely down to being in poor form, there is just a lack of talent at the back for them. It will certainly be tough for them this weekend against a strong Everton attack, it will really be tested if they have improved defensively or not.

As much as West Ham have improved, I still see them being beaten this weekend. Everton are looking a very strong side this year under new boss Ronald Koeman. He has taken them to a new level, where they look a lot more ruthless. They were always prone to playing excellent football in a game but not coming out with the result they deserved. Of course this happens in football, that is part of the beauty of the game, but it happened to Everton far to often.

When you look at these two teams man to man, Everton are simply a better side. They have a better structure to the team, and as a whole they are better going forward than West Ham. Of course West Ham have Payet who is a brilliant talent, but nobody on the West Ham team could come close to Lukaku, and there is plenty of talent to support him as well with the likes of Delofeu, Bolasie and more. Playing at home in front of their home fans, there is only one way I see this game going.

TONY’S BEST BET:
Back Everton at 1.85

Southampton v Chelsea

4.00pm Sunday This is another game I have picked when looking at the prices and thinking the home side are just too good value to pass up. Southampton have been really solid this season under their new management and are a dangerous side for anybody to come up against, as we saw with Man City last weekend. They have been brilliant defensively and have offered enough going forward to be a real threat. It is incredible how they continue to do this despite the amount of players they have lost over the past couple of years.

Chelsea demolished Man United last week, they looked really, really good but it must be said that Man united were very poor. Despite this, Man United could have grabbed a couple of goals and really made a game of it. Chelsea still look a bit unsure at the back to me. I have said it already this season, and I will say it again, I’m not convinced that Gary Cahill has the quality to be a starting Chelsea defender. We all know about David Luiz and what he is liable to do. Chelsea conceded a lot of goals at the start of the season before switching to three at the back, and although they have improved in this category, they are still a bit dodgy looking to me.

They have been good going forward, Costa is having a great season and Hazard is looking more like his old self, but they are coming up against one of the best defensive partnerships in the league right now. Fonte and Van Dijk have formed a brilliant partnership at the back, week in week out we see teams struggle to break them down and it won’t be any different this weekend. Look for them to frustrate Chelsea, and when given the chance you can rely on Austin to grab a goal from nothing. It is a system that is working well for them so far this season.

TONY’S BEST BET:
Back Southampton at 3.15
