PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW After an excellent week of European football we are primed for another brilliant weekend, made even better by the fact that it is a long weekend! After an average weekend last week I am feeling pretty confident of a sweep this weekend.

Sunderland v West Ham

3.00pm Saturday I back West Ham last weekend and they did not disappoint, putting an end to their horrific recent losing streak. This week however I am going to flip it around and go against them. Sunderland of course have had a horrid season and I think they are pretty much a cert to go down this season, but if there was going to be any game they are going to win on their run in to the end of the year it will be this one.

West Ham may have picked up a home win last weekend, but their form has been terrible, losing five games on the trot before that game. Their problem all season long has been their defence. They have been shipping goals all year, and even the purchase of Fonte in January has not helped matters. They had a horrific start to the season, but things improved for them in the middle and they have regressed again to the form of a relegation side.

These are two bad sides coming up against each other on Saturday, I can’t see it being a pretty encounter but as I said I think this is the best chance Sunderland have of grabbing a win. Expect Defoe to grab a goal for the home side and for them to grab a tight win. Giving their form this season you can get them at an excellent price too.

TONY’S BEST BET:
Back Sunderland at 3.25.

Stoke v Hull

3.00pm Saturday If there is one side in the Premier League that will have an overhaul this summer it will be Stoke. They have a very aging side and a lot of tired looking legs at this stage of the year. They have all played a lot of football together and are a good side on their day, but it has been a theme for them in the last couple of years that they start slow, pick up and play excellent football until they have secured a mid table finish, then they fade a bit to close out.

If Mark Hughes wants this team to progress then he will need to infuse plenty of fresh blood into the side. They are coming up against a Hull side who will certainly ask questions. Over the last couple of months they have played like a team inspired, and while the results have not regularly reflected this I think they will pick up enough result to stay in the Premier League next season. They are quite good going forward, and with the pace of the likes of Markovic I think they can trouble this tired Hull defence.

I was tempted to go with Laying Stoke here, but seeing the price to back Hull I am going to take a chance. I think this is far too high a price for a team that has put up a good battle in almost all of their games in the last couple of months. Look for Hull to take another step towards safety.

TONY’S BEST BET:
Back Hull at 4.3.

Man United v Chelsea

4.00pm Sunday On to the big game of the weekend. League Leaders Chelsea travelling to Man United who are struggling to break into the coveted top four! Man United of course have this long unbeaten run in the Premier League going for them, but it is certainly nowhere near as impressive as it sounds, as about half of these games have been draws. It happened again the the Europa League last night, United were the better team but they just don’t seem to be able to see a game out at the moment.

If there is one side that will end their unbeaten run it will be Chelsea. They have swept everything in front of them this season, and just have such a strong unity in their team. Chelsea, as well as the chasing pack will all have had a close eye no this game as a potential roadblock in their bid for the Premier League trophy. I just feel they have a real advantage over the home side here. They have been much more clinical all season long, and they have so much more rest coming into the game. Man United are coming off a Europa League game on Thursday, they are looking forward towards another one next Thursday and that is followed by an FA Cup semi final. Sometimes teams just run into a tough schedule based on their success in a season, that is exactly what has happened to Man United.

No matter who Chelsea play in the Premier League this season I think being anywhere close to 2/1 is a brilliant price for them. They have been so solid in defence since Conte introduced their new formation. Many sides are trying to emulate the formation but I think there is no doubt that Chelsea have adopted it the best. As well as being more solid at the back, they have so much quality moving forward with the likes of Hazard, Costa and many more, and there may not be a more solid midfield partnership than Matic and Kante in world football right now. They are just such a strong unit from front to back and with a full week to prepare for a game against a side that just can’t buy a win at the moment I think Chelsea are tremendous value at 2.92.

TONY’S BEST BET:
Back Chelsea at 2.92.
