This time last year Tottenham were well en route to finish in the Champions League places before a collapse saw their North London rivals sneak into the top four. Unless Spurs quickly rediscover some form the same is going to happen this year and they face Manchester City on Sunday.

Andre Villas-Boas’ lot have taken just four points from games against Liverpool, Fulham, Everton and Swansea before this weekend. All games that they need to have won, especially with the sides below all cranking up the pressure.

The last of those league fixtures came against Everton and they needed a Gylfi Sigurdsson equaliser three minutes from time to avoid a home defeat.

City on the other hand are flying with six straight league wins and that includes a 2-1 win at Old Trafford in their most recent away assignment. They have also made light work of Spurs over the past few seasons with four wins in a row.

Edin Dzeko got four in the 5-1 win when City were last at White Hart Lane and although I don’t think it’ll be as comfortable as that afternoon, I do think City are good value for the three points.

We then head off to Merseyside for Rafa Benitez’s first return to Anfield since he left three years ago. It’s fair to say that the Reds haven’t hit the heights they did under the Spaniard and the main target for this season is finishing above their blue rivals.

Brendan Rodgers has endured an inconsistent year as he re-builds his squad and has already said that qualifying for the Europa League would hinder his plans next season. He’d still love to get one over Chelsea and reaffirm that the club made the right decision to bring him here.

Only Alex McCarthy’s inspired performance between the sticks kept Liverpool out against Reading for the second goalless draw on the spin. Liverpool also earned a point from the game at the Bridge, but hammered them 4-1 on the Blues’ last trip north.

Chelsea were well beaten in their FA Cup semi-final to leave them with a top four finish and the Europa League mission . Although they dispatched Fulham with ease on Wednesday they have generally struggled to match their consistent home form when on the road.

Anfield will be electric for Rafa’s return and the Reds can take full advantage of Chelsea’s troubles outside of West London.
