RIDER CUP SUCCESS STORY: Thursday 10th October – BETDAQ is celebrating another successful Rider Cup Golf Day which saw over €5,000 raised for the Irish Injured Jockey Fund and Cancer Trials Ireland.

Past and present Irish jockeys dropped their whips and picked up their irons for the second edition of the charity golf event at Heritage Golf Resort in Laois, and were rewarded with some fantastic weather while the day contributed to a sizeable donation to the IIJF.

The Flat Team, led by Johnny Murtagh in the absence of regular captain Pat Smullen, retained their crown thanks to a hard fought 4-4 draw, with Mick Kinane setting an example from tee to green, while Paul Townend and Jonathan Moore impressed for the Jumps side.

The event saw BETDAQ donate €4,000 to the IIJF, while a further €1,500, including €500 from the golfers on the day, was given to Cancer Trials Ireland, the choice of winning captain Smullen.

BETDAQ is a keen supporter of the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund, which was set up in 2014 to raise vital funds for riders in need of support. Additional donations can be made via http://www.irishinjuredjockeys.com/donations/

Greg Walker, PR Officer at BETDAQ, said “We are absolutely delighted with how the second running of the BETDAQ Rider Cup went especially as it raises great amounts of money for two fantastic charities.

“To have raised over €5,000 for two great causes makes the day really worthwhile and we’re hugely thankful to Heritage Golf Resort for hosting the event, while the same thanks must go to Druids Golf for providing the attire for both teams.

“Congratulations to Team Flats who retained the trophy after a nail-biting draw. They were led by Johnny Murtagh who stepped in for last year’s winning captain Pat Smullen who unfortunately wasn’t able to make the event. Pat is a huge supporter of the event and we wish him all the best in his recovery.”
