COMMUNITY SHIELD: We preview Sunday’s Community Shield at Wembley with LIVERPOOL taking on MAN CITY in the traditional curtain raiser to the new season. Find out our BETDAQ recommended bet.

LIVERPOOL v MAN CITY

3pm After what has felt like a long summer, English football is finally back! The traditional curtain raiser see’s Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Community Shield. It’s fair to say that these are the two top teams in England at the moment, with City winning the Premier League along with both domestic Cups and Liverpool winning the Champions League. They will undoubtedly battle it out for the big trophies again this season, and it’s nice to get an early look at them playing each other.

The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Liverpool 4.0, Manchester City 1.99 and the draw is 4.0. Usually the losers of this tie always pass it off a pre-season friendly; however the winners can use it as a spring board for their season. We feel that it’ll be an important kick start as these two are bound to have a massive must-win game against each other at some stage in the season!

On the transfer front, it’s been a reasonably quiet summer for both clubs. That is probably understandable given how good they were last season – the squads are packed with talent and they look pretty settled. Both managers must be happy with where their teams are at coming into the new season.

Sometimes the Community Shield can be played at quite a low tempo and while neither side will want to lose, we can’t see the same intensity here as a Premier League game. This makes the goals market interesting; the markets are a tight enough game with over 2.5 goals trading as big as 1.8. For a game with so much attacking talent, that will tempt many punters!

For our best bet, we can’t get away from City at 1.99. We feel that they should be closer 1.9 given how good they were last season and although they have a good recent record against Liverpool. As good as Liverpool were last season, they still couldn’t beat City and when City beat them around the turn of the year; that was the turning point in the season. This might not be a classic to watch; however we feel that there is more strength in depth to the City side and they can win it late on.
