CRICKET WORLD CUP: Australia and Pakistan are set to do battle in Taunton on Wednesday if the weather relents, but it’s a big ‘if.  Pakistan haven’t played since their shock win over England on June 3rd.

After two days of little/no action in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Australia and Pakistan will hope the rain will disappear and a game of Cricket can get the green light. County Ground, Taunton is the venue and the forecast is for some rain throughout the day (mostly in the evening) but we should hopefully see a result in this game. At time of writing, Australia are the favourites on the exchange priced at 1.44. Pakistan are priced at 2.74.

Australia unbeaten start came to an end vs India last Sunday losing by 36 runs at The Oval. Australia will have been disappointed to leave themselves a high target of 353 for victory from India’s innings. Marcus Stoinis was the only Aussie bowler to take more than a single wicket. From their own innings no player scored a century. Steve Smith (69), David Warner (56) and Alex Carey (55) were the only players to pass 50 runs. Australia finished on 316 and in fairness that is a score that would win a lot of Cricket games.

Pakistan already know about the frustrations of a wash out game after last Friday game vs Sri Lanka didn’t go ahead. That means they haven’t played since their shock victory over England on June 3rd. After a heavy defeat vs West Indies in their opening game, there were written off by everybody going into that game. However, they reminded us why they are ICC Champions Trophy Champions in that game. Wahab Riaz (3-82), Mohammad Hafeez (84 runs) and Babar Azam (64 runs) really stood out in that game.

It now eight days since that game and Australia have played twice in the meantime so Pakistan could be found wanting for match sharpness. Mitchell Starc (7 wickets), Pat Cummins (6 wickets), Steve Smith (160 runs) and David Warner (148 runs) are enjoying good tournaments to date. If these players find again (and the rain stays away) Australia should have six points on the table by tomorrow night.

Verdict: Australia.
