WONDER VALUE IN BETDAQ LAND: Zonderland at 6.8 was wonderland, declared Daqman yesterday, and sure enough BETDAQ backers could get 46% better value from the Salisbury big-race winner, one of three in a row among Daqman’s selections:

WON 4-1 Zonderland (from 6.8)
WON 11-8 Dubka
WON 5-6 Alyssa (banker nap)

THREE BANKERS UP OUT OF FOUR: Alyssa was Daqman’s third winning banker from the last four (50 points profit to 20-point stakes)

WON 4-5 Walpole
(3rd 2-1 Beck And Call)
WON 7-4 Adool
WON 5-6 Alyssa

TODAY: Daqman’s nap today was 4.4 on BETDAQ this morning in the opening analysis for the 3.20 Newbury. TOMORROW: Look out for Daqman’s Saturday specials. Last Saturday he had 11 returns from 17 selections in the Shergar Cup.

CENTURION FOR KNIGHT: NICE MOVE..

3.20 Newbury Older horses don’t win this: the last nine winners have been aged three to five. Today’s fast ground should again be too much for them.

Silver Quay hasn’t won on turf for two years but, despite the apparent steadier of 10st., is now 12lb below his AW mark.

Touch The Sky was gifted a race from the front at Sandown, after beating a long-term loser (Medina Sidonia, 1-17) at Pontefract, but David Elsworth’s horses are a law unto themselves, and – though five years old – he is unexposed (8 runs) alongside such as Zambeasy.

After 22 appearances, Zambeasy is up in grade for this race, and his form on firm ground is 0043.

The Graduate is a big, staying sort who ‘wouldn’t want quick ground’ (quote unquote, Andrew Balding) but how often have I sworn not to listen to trainers.

A 4.4 offer on BETDAQ this morning, Bill Knight’s Niceonecenturion has improved 10lb on his opening handicap mark in June and has had only five starts. A CD winner in these conditions on the last day, he looks well placed in this.

DROP IN TRIP JUST DANDY IN THE SPRINT

3.55 Newbury It’s not easy to tell what you get from a winner o fthe Weatherbys Super Sprint, like Mrs Danvers, returning to Newbury today.

The two previous Sprint winners were wildly different. Tiggy Wiggy (2014) went on to take the Lowther and the Cheveley Park but Lathom (2015) has failed to reach the frame in eight starts since.

The filly Mrs Danvers beat at Newbury, Stormy Clouds, had been 14 lengths behind in the Queen Mary and was stuffed 17 lengths in a race in between, yet the third home, Clem Fandango, had been third in the Queen Mary.

Why the discrepancy in coillateral form? Answer: the ground. It was too soft for Stormy Clouds i the Queen Msry but firmish in the Sprint, and her then losing battle with Mrs Danvers has its replay this afternoon but with Stormy Clouds 4lb better to recoup a length snd a quarter.

In another of the admirable Pyman’s Theories in the Racing Post today, Exceed And Excel – in the Danehill line – is listed as a sire to follow for firm-ground progeny. That points up Tallulah Rose.

Dainty Dandy and Tallulah Rose were second and third in the Princess Margaret Stakes at the last Ascot meeting which, contrary to the Queen Mary royal meeting, was run on a firmish surface.

The drop back to 5f here should be a boon to Dainty Dandy (5.2 in the orange this morning), and the Princess Margaret has thrown up winners of this St Hugh’s Fillies’ Stakes three times in the decade.

ENGAGE WITH THE STOUTE IMPROVER

4.20 Nottingham (Colwick Cup) In the good old bad old days, I used to wander into Colwick Park and have my card marked by a dapper man we called Tennis Shoes, a nightclub owner who had ‘connections’ (also known as free entry passes to the club).

He was immaculately dressed but always wore tennis shoes or sneakers, or whatever you want to call them these days. My ‘plates of meat’ are telling me he had something there!

A case of Who Dares Wins, perhaps. The horse of that name

has a penalty here which raises him above the future level awarded by the handicapper but is a 139-rated Grade-2 hurdler for Alan King and loves firm ground.

Kingy’s Jumps rival, Kim Bailey, has every chance of a place with Forgotten Hero but, in this case, the handicapper has almost always had his measure recently, dishing out a similar rating for two years and more.

Engage, yet another M Stoute improver, was giving a lump of weight to the winner, so wss the ‘moral’ on the last day at Newbury, and might have the legs of them, getting the three-year-olds’ allowance.

7.10 Newmarket Step up to a mile; add a first-time hood; the recipe worked well for Blue Geranium on the last day.

Now she has the added bonuses of a win since for the second horse, and the leg up for Frankie Dettori this evening.
