TODAY: DAQMAN BAGS SOME GOOD OFFERS: Daqman analysis of six races at Sandown today throws up bets at 9.8, 8.0, 5.6 and 5.0, and a lay at 1.45 on BETDAQ this morning.

TOMORROW: ON TWICE AS MANY WINNERS: Daqman and Pricewise go into battle on Grand National Trial day tomorrow with the score 18-9 to our man, who is 46 points in front (+36 to -10).

NATIONAL: 20-1 AND 33-1 IN THE WALLET: Daqman is better off than he thought, with two outsiders in his Grand National ante-post wallet. The ‘forgotten horse’ could score in that Trial tomorrow.

WELL IN THE BLACK WITH LION

What to do with ante-post bets. Well, when they are way in advance, forget all about them until nearer the time, said Daqman last autumn.

He followed his own instructions to the letter – and forgot all about a Grand National investment – even though we reminded him (below) when the horse won a trial.

Yes, yesterday’s Daqman ante-post list of bets should include Blaklion at a very early 20-1. Here’s our reminder after the Becher Chase of December 9.

DAQMAN COLUMN HAS 20-1 BLAKLION FOR THE NATIONAL: Daqman has an ante-post big hitter every season – Cause Of Causes (44-1), Enable (25-1) – and he’s already got massive ‘overs’ on the 2018 Grand National, putting up yesterday’s Becher winner, Blaklion, for Aintree in his column of November 27 when 20-1 with Corals, and it’s now at least half the price, as low as 9-1 and 10-1.

DAQMAN column 27 November 2017

So yesterday’s ante-post update should look like the list below and, if Blaklion wins tomorrow’s Haydock Grand National Trial, he will become a short-priced favourite and our man will no doubt be thinking of laying off to pay for his bet, warning that the stats are against.

20-1 BLAKLION Grand National to win 100 (5pts staked)
33-1 ABOLITIONIST Grand National to win 100 (3pts staked)
17.5 BLACK OP Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle to win 50 (3pts stake)

GOLF BACK IN THE SWING

1.20 Sandown Chieftain’s Choice won this last year off 5lb lower and is not in such good form this time around, nor is his stable.

Gassin Golf was third here in a much better race in January and, though top weight today, is 11lb lower than at this time last year: 5.6 in the BETDAQ orange as I write

1.50 Sandown Ubaltique (3.45 offers on BETDAQ) is 2011 on heavy ground and trainer Donald McCain is having a great run, though the 10-year-old’s Sandown form is 40. Can we risk him?

Well, Tara Bridge is raised in class and weight today, Un Beau Roman has struggled when the mud is flying, and the horse Movie Legend beat last time he showed any form trailed in behind Ubaltique at Haydock.

2.25 Sandown This is a weakfish renewal, 5lb below the level of the last couple of winners.

Gary Moore thinks that All Currencies is Grade-1 material but made the wrong entry for her at Cheltenham.

The form book certainly suggests that his judgment is otherwise good. The mare’s victim at Newbury last month had won at Fontwell, giving weight to winners at Newton Abbot and Uttoxeter.

Melangerie has come on well recently but punters with longer memories might recall that she was eight lengths behind 5.0 offer All Currencies when the pair met in their five-year-old days.

Midnight Tune has to be watched after tailing off last time and If You Say Run was beaten 30 lengths when stepped up in class on the last day.

ROSE CAN BLOOM AGAIN

3.00 Sandown Last year’s winner Rathlin Rose ran a stormer in the Welsh Grand National but flopped in the Somerset version.

Should go close again after a break, 3.5 on BETDAQ, with Orbasa seemingly best on top of the ground, and Cabragh, Midnight Monty and Lezo Luna all up in grade. Renard was a remote third in this race last year.

3.30 Sandown Long odds on this morning, Et Moi Alors was beating dual winner Nayati when falling at Ascot but, at the offers, Mister Malarkey (BETDAQ 9.8) may be value for a pound.

Kempton winner whose Christmas flop coincided with a poor spell for the Tizzard yard, which is firing again now.

4.05 Sandown Step Back’s target is a 3m hurdle at the Grand National meeting, and he was beaten in his only chase over regulation fences, so only a saver here.

Potters Legend is 10lb lower than a year or so ago but can you trust his jumping? They couldn’t give Muckle Roe away this morning; drifted like a lonely dog on a raft.

So I’ll bet that Aubusson (8.0 BETDAQ) returns to form, back to regulation fences last time after a cross-country attempt suggested that wasn’t his game. He’ll love the mud.
