PROFIT ON ALL NAPS NOW NEARLY 60 POINTS: His three winning naps on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – second on Wednesday – were capped by last night’s supernap:

TODAY: Fakenham survives; Sandown off.

TOMORROW: It’s all down to Storm Dennis.

FAKENHAM HOLDS THE FORT TODAY

⭕ Sandown abandoned: Fakenham this afternoon, billed as Valentine’s Raceday, wins the hearts of punters as the only surviving Jumps card, after waterlogged Sandown was abandoned even before the planned inspection this morning. Racing has been lost somewhere every single day this week and prospects for tomorrow are hardly hopeful in the face of Storm Dennis, expected to sweep across England from Ireland in the morning.

⭕ Ascot tomorrow Soft-heavy with rain forecast ahead of the Ascot Chase (Cyrname’s Cheltenham prep).

⭕ Wincanton Soft-heavy with rain forecast for the Kingwell Hurdle meeting.

⭕ Haydock Heavy (rain) ahead of Victor Ludorum (Triumph Hurdle trial) and Grand National Trial prep race for such as with Ballyoptic, Elegant Escape, One For Arthur and Vintage Clouds.

⭕ Gowran Park Heavy (rain). Voix Du Reve needs the Red Mills Chase as he is not yet qualified for the Grand National.

⭕ Lingfield (AW), Newcastle (AW) both expect rain.

GREANE SHOULD GRAB CHAMPAGNE

2.10 Fakenham Scottish Champion Chase winner Greaneteen should follow up last year’s win in this race for the Paul Nicholls and Bryony Frost combination. The pair jumped round brilliantly at Musselburgh, Greaneteen showing the verve and nerve of a traditional two-miler.

Similar fizz can be found in Champagne Mystery, but his best best performances have come over 2m 4f (winner at Aintree).

Wrapped around that success are tell-tale bridesmaid form figures of 2222, revealing that lack of finish when the fizz is spent.

BADRI LOOKS GOOD FOR NEW TRIP

3.10 Lingfield A first-time tongue tie helped Badri get off the mark on today’s course three weeks back.

He looked well grown over the winter and this step up to 7f is in keeping with the stamina in his pedigree, and there’s likely to be some pace on from Phuket Power.

Bendy Spirit either failed to act on the Newcastle surface or failed to cope with a 6lb rise for scoring here at Lingfield over today’s CD.

He was narrowly out of the frame but was upped another pound by the handicapper. Can’t beat Odyssey Girl on the form of their one-two in November.

Charlie Appleby in great form, both at home and in Meydan, and Amber Island is an interesting recruit to AW but I shall expect big things of Badri.

LAD’S SNEAKING UNDER THE RADAR

6.45 Southwell All four runners have scored over the course and over the distance, but only Sandridge Lad and Samovar have won over the distance on today’s course.

That distinction may be useful in getting an edge in a handicap; so might siding with a young improver.

That would be Sandridge Lad, though he’s up in grade and a total of 10lb higher than for back-to-back wins in class 5 here.

But, as it’s just a week since the last of them, he is sneaking in here 3lb below the 83 rating at which the handicapper has reassessed him.

Zapper Cass’s 14lb hike was for similar Southwell success, back to back, at the start of the month but over 5f. He’s failed twice since, including over today’s CD.

Robero has won here over 7f (twice) and a mile, since moving to Gay Kelleway. He travelled really well when winning here in December, and is unlikely to be run off his feet, down in trip. BETDAQ 4.1 this morning.
