BANKERS DUO AND DOUBLE-YOUR-MONEY 15.0 HIT: Daqman was on target five times yesterday across four cards in two countries with big-money banker bets and shock outsiders – two of each – which were no surprise to him! Yet again, morning odds on BETDAQ proved to be more than double-your-money value when Spanish Steps (WON 6-1) was gambled in from 15.0 offers taken.

50-1 SECOND IN THREE RETURNS FROM ONE RACE: In landing the Haydock banker Sainted, he also named the runner-up Clear Water (2ND 50-1), which paid 47-1 and just under 50-1 if you chose a Ladbrokes forecast. So the race could have paid you out three times: the winner, a 10-1 place and the 50-1 forecast.

WON 4-7 SAINTED (banker nap, Haydock)
(2ND 50-1 CLEAR WATER)
WON 4-5 ENTANGLING (banker, Yarmouth)
WON 6-1 SPANISH STEPS (15.0 BETDAQ, Leopardstown)
WON 6-5 TIME CHASER (Sandown)

IN FORM? JOHNSTON’S NOT KIDDING

2.30 Musselburgh Rumshak tries to defy the stats as odds-on ‘jolly’. No favourite has scored in this two-year-olds’ conditions stakes.

As one that took part in the Super Sprint, Falabelle looked massively overpriced at 6.0 in the BETDAQ orange this morning. I would expect Rumshak to come back to evens or so and provide at least a saver. Play the race.

4.00 Musselburgh Mark Johnston was leading trainer as ever, at Goodwood, and continued his run in Sussex with a winner at Brighton yesterday.

Now the canny Scot intends to steal this Archerfield Cup in his home country. His form in this race is 1132, and he’s trying to bowl out a small field here with a yorker instead of going to Ascot on Saturday.

Yorkidding (5.0 on BETDAQ) swerves the Shergar Cup because he has his ground here and has won six races of single-figure fields with power drives at the finish of what are often slowly-run affairs.

He was only third in this in 2015 but has improved 17lb, according to his recent assessments for the Ascot Stakes and Northumberland Plate.

Graded racing is not as exact a science as it purports to be and those races were the same class as today’s but very much stronger, in fact. Only Tawdeea (prefers soft so withdrawn) of the declared runners had won at this level.

Sebastian’s Wish has taken four races in class 4 and class 6, but was only third to Great Fighter on today’s course in class 3, and Great Fighter himself flopped with his penalty on the last day.

UNDER THE COVERS IS UNEXPOSED..

4.10 Brighton (The Brighton Bullet) Trainer Ronald Harris has farmed this race with four winners from six starters in nine seasons for superb form figures of 1—11001, for a 66% strike rate.

To his great credit, he’s never used the same the horse or the same winning jockey twice and it’s musical saddles again today as Ryan Powell is called in for Under The Covers.

So few races at Brighton have double-figure fields, I only found two! I was testing for the draw.

In fact, they were won by stalls 3 and 14. Sample too small for definitive answers, but the Racing Post says high and Under The Covers is in 14 and 7.8 on BETDAQ.

Under The Covers is unexposed (had to get that one in), whereas Pour La Victoire has won five times at Brighton. He scored in this race in 2015 off 3lb higher but has been in poor form (often starts slowly) in the last 15 months.

Upavon also does well here but is on a string of 11 defeats, and Highly Spring finished a long way behind Under The Covers at Bath.

BALLET SHOES ON AND STEPS OUT!

6.55 Tipperary Aidan O’Brien’s four-year record in this race is 1241, with Ger Lyons interrupting the sequence with back-to-back wins in 2014-15 from just two horses – no other runners – in the four seasons.

The winners they shared, all colts, included Capri, who would go on to earn this year’s Irish Derby accolade for O’Brien.

Lyons is back with an unbeaten colt today in Lethal Steps, but O’Brien thinks his two fillies – both by Galileo – can handle the job. All three have Group-1 entries.

I took 3.8 Ballet Shoes, a comfortable winner atthe Curragh on the last day, but safety says I needed a bit of 10.5 Easter Lily for stable cover.
