6-1 WIN AS ANOTHER FAVOURITE BITES THE DUST: Daqman opposed yet another morning-favourite Music Society at Newmarket yesterday, describing his Press form as ‘spin’, and tipping Maybride (WON 6-1 from 7.6 on BETDAQ). Music Society was eighth of nine, finally 9-2 SP. Maybride made it five winners for Daqman at the Craven meeting, including Soliloquy (WON 4-1 from 7.0 on BETDAQ).

TOMORROW: DAQMAN’S ON THE BIG-RACE SCENE: Newbury takes over today but we have to wait until tomorrow for any decent action on Spring Cup and Fred Darling day. Also look out at Ayr for the Scottish Grand National and Champion Hurdle.

THE OAKS? LAH LAH IS BLAH BLAH

3.00 Newbury We now know why Roaring Lion ran in the unfashionable Craven Stakes, and trying to divine the reason why trainers do what they do is part of the punter’s daily research.

The snag this year is that, after such a horrible wet winter, we also more than ever have to guess which stables are fit and which two-year-olds will train on as three-year-olds.

With stables which start their fillies slowly, as they should, diving in the deep end at a major meet like Newbury does not always suggest success.

John Gosden launched Enable on AW at Newcastle. So Mi Dar started out at Windsor. Now here’s her sister, Lah Ti Dar, in this Newbury maiden.

But is this race ‘the deep end?’ Gosden has won it three times since 2011, but open your eyes to the hitherto shocking consequence if you’re thinking of backing Lah Ti Dar for the Oaks.

None of those three Gosden fillies who won this race ever won another. Not a one!

I fell for a sweet filly in this very same contest in 2015, Victoria Pollard, with trainer Andrew Balding backing me up. Victoria seemed a plum bet for a Classic.

In fact (you’ve guessed it), she never won another race. Twelve consecutive defeats after taking this maiden which is clearly a graveyard.

Sir Michael Stoute will hope to see Hazarfiya boost the yard’s confidence in Veracious, and Ralph Beckett (Arcadian Cat) always does well with fillies.

But I reckon Lah Ti Dar is the one. The punter’s godsend will be very keen to win the race again, particularly if he doubts that Lah Ti Dar will ever win another!

4.05 Newbury Jedd O’Keefe was 2-3 with older horses on the AW this year and decides to travel South with a turf improver last year, Injam.

He wanted to take advantage of the gelding’s love of cut in the ground before the sun dried out the southern tracks. The 12.5 offers on BETDAQ this morning look big.

It’s a similar story about the ground with Alan King and Coeur De Lion (6.2), whose Flat form is 1231 and whose hurdles form outside Graded company is 122110.

Golden Birthday has also mixed Flat and jumps (five wins in a row July to October) but the jury is out on his first run back, when he hung badly.

Targeted for this is Jukebox Jive, who won over the Newbury CD last July during a rainy spell, but his stable is missing strike badly.

KINKS TO MAKE FITNESS COUNT

4.45 Ayr Like many of Alan King’s horses, Tara View (9.2 BETDAQ) has been inconvenienced by the deep ground over the winter. Won four in a row before fourth last Spring in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Final at Newbury.

5.10 Bath Though Sixties Icon won a St Leger, he gets two-year-old winners, and the dam of his son, Kinks, in this one is by Rock Of Gibraltar, another line to strong juvenile form.

For this reason no doubt, Kinks is entered up in the big Weatherbys sprints for two-year-olds.

Many youngsters are backward at this time of year and, after the miserable winter, an early show of form, like Kinks’ narrow defeat a fortnight ago, suggests a bet.

He’s been working on turf since, and my man in the long grass reckons he’s stepped up for the Polytrack debut.

5.15 Ayr By Beneficial out of an Old Vic mare, so bred in the Jumping purple, Cloth Cap (14.0 BETDAQ offers) should find this step up to 3m playing to his strengths.
