BIG TWO UNVEILING CLASSIC CLUES: Newbury takes over from Newmarket but the Classic trials continue with John Gosden and Sir Michael Stoute saddling 1,000 Guineas and Oaks hopes today, with tomorrow’s Greenham often a key race for the colt’s Classics.

SCOTTISH NATIONAL CLASH TOMORROW: Daqman goes into the weekend 5-2 up on Pricewise and 23 points clear to a single-unit stake (Daqman + 6.50 Pricewise -16.50). Main handicap feature of the day is the Scottish Grand National

BANK ON DETTORI AT SPEED

Gosden the godsend for punters. John Gosden has trained 13 winners on this day at Newbury since 2010. And his current strike rate (last fortnight) is 33%.

The racing world is still talking about the way he produced Daban from a Kempton nursery to land the Nell Gwyn, and now offered at 12.0 on BETDAQ for the 1,000 Guineas

3.05 Newbury Now Gosden goes for a hat-trick in this conditions race with Enable, another once-raced AW winning filly, whose Newcastle success in November has been franked by wins for second, third and fourth.

But the Gosden yard also saddles another one-run-one-win filly, Yarmouth winner, Shutter Speed. She beat 13 others very late on in the season but only one of them was a previous winner.

Similarly, Dubawi Prince beat 15 opponents at Doncaster on the first of the month but the race was a maiden so none had won a race.

However, Roger Varian’s stable is red hot with seven winners from its last 11 runners, including five in a row.

Raheen House has the best form. Fourth in the Racing Post Trophy behind Rivet (second in the Craven yesterday) and Salouen (beaten a neck in the Gerry Feilden on Tuesday).

Under the conditions of the race the 110-rated Raheen House (4.7 on BETDAQ) is getting weight from the 90-rated Maths Prize, another example of The Queen’s knack of naming her horses, this one a son of Royal Applause out of Hypoteneuse. It’s Herself’s birthday today.

The Maths Prize rating is all wrong now. He is about the same horse as Khalidi, who was receiving 3lb when he beat the royal runner in September, and Khalidi it was who beat Salouen in the Feilden, so there’s probably only the 3lb difference in weights today between Maths Prize and Raheen House.

But both have to give a lump of weight to the fillies and, Gosden having won this last year with a filly in a similar situation, Shutter Speed will be hard to beat under Frankie Dettori

3.40 Newbury More potentially decent three-year-old filles. Again, Gosden is the man to watch. He’s won it three times since 2010 and, in Gracious Diana, has a stamina-packed individual with the Oaks entry, half-sister to the Group-2 winner Dandino.

Big worry would be the Frankel filly Mori, who is out of the magnificent race mare Midday. Mori doesn’t do much at home but that’s a family trait.

I could back both this morning (Mori BETDAQ offered 3.35; Gracious Diana 9.0)

STOUTE HAS THE SUPERIORITY

4.10 Newbury Wait for it! Yes, you’re right: John Gosden has won this three times in six years and is represented by yet another once-raced AW winner, Chessman.

There’s another Freemason Lodge contender, Pivoine, but I’m told that Sir Michael Ronald Stoute’s best of the day is in the next.

5.10 Newbury if Mori wins or goes close in the 3.40, her work companion, Superioritycomplex, will be odds on here. As it is, this half-sister to Stoute’s top-class Abingdon was available at 4.5 in the BETDAQ orange when I checked out the exchange market.

6.00 Bath A Listed race won by fillies or mares rated between 90 and 108. That’s a pretty wide parameter but it narrows this field down to Priceless, Buying Trouble, Blithe Spirit, Glenrowan Rose, Iseemist and Ostatnia.

But I fancy a frivolous pound on Futoon win and a place at 24.0 in the BETDAQ orange. This is the dual 5f winner’s first run back at the minimum since August. Her 5f form is 14312. At 6f: 2300200.
