DAQMAN HORSE-BY-HORSE GUIDE TO THE BIG RACE AT EXETER: Daqman today fields a nap, a bull’s-eye bet and a Fortune Cookie. He loves a National and the Exeter version today expresses a big thankyou to the NHS, and is surely a Special occasion. Each runner is analysed in BETDAQ betting order.

SPECIAL DAY FOR DEVON NATIONAL

⭕ 3.10 Exeter (Thankyou NHS Devon National) Christmas In April (WON 8-1) was a big winner in this for Daqman a year ago. How little we knew then the topsy-turvy prescience of that name, and that the Grand National itself wouldn’t even be run.

Christmas is on the card for Colin Tizzard again today; so, too, another previous winner (for two years running) Dawson City for Polly Gundry.

Sue Gardner, with the topical Tea Time On Mars, and Jeremy Scott (Ballybough Nora) are also winning stables of this Devon marathon which routinely provides jam and cream for the punter.

No outright favourite has won it but winners in the decade at SPs of 9-2 (twice), 11-2, 6-1, 7-1 and 8-1 (twice) suggest that backers are having a picnic.

Runners in order of BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE offers at 9 a.m. (check out the latest moves):

5.9 SAMUEL JACKSON Fourth in this in 2019. Taunton 3m 4f winner dropped 13lb this season, stayed on well, second here on the last day, with Tea Time On Mars fourth.

6.1 AMATEUR Won the Mandarin (3m 2f) at Newbury at the end of December but the field was low quality; the only pursuer close to him – second beaten a neck with 20 lengths to the third – has flopped a novice chase since.

9.5 DAWSON CITY Dual winner of this 2018-19 (pulled up last year). Aged 12 now but took advantage of 15lb slide down the handicap to go close here in December (beaten a head 3m 6f) and won Somerset National (3m 2f) the last day. Still well handicapped and claimed off.

9.8 SPECIAL ACCEPTANCE Late developer. Favourite and runner-up in the Sussex National at Plumpton (3m 4f) and has Tom Scudamore (currently 7-31) booked today.

11.0 CHRISTMAS IN APRIL Sussex National then Devon National winner in space of six weeks at the start of last year. Poor form since corresponds to low point of stable (currently 1-34).

12.0 FINDUSATGORCOMBE Beat Dawson City a head here in December (3m 6f) but his rival jockey’s 7lb claim could tip the balance if the veteran can hold his form.

12.0 TALKTOMENOW Consistent unexposed novice has won at 3m 2f and may get further.

14.5 TEA TIME ON MARS A winner at Bangor and here at Exeter (2m 3f) without suggesting this step up in trip will suit.

16.5 BERMEO Cheltenham winner and second in the autumn for amateur rider Angus Cheleda but has flopped over longer trips the last twice, including here. First-time visor.

16.5 BOYHOOD Has slipped a stone down the handicap since winning in May 2019 over 3m 2f. Poor form at big odds recently.

16.5 BALLYBOUGH NORA 0-9 over fences and only 1-8 hurdling, beaten 40 lengths the last day.

18.0 PETITE POWER Would have won this a year ago; Exeter second (3m 6f) and then third in the Warwick Classic (3m 6f). Poor form since though, including in same Exeter race won by Findusatgorcombe. He’s 12 now.

39.0 FINANCIAL OUTCOME 1-17 under Rules. Refused or pulled up in two of last three starts.

40.0 HEAD TO THE STARS Pulled up all three starts this term after winning the Forbra Gold Cup (3m) at Ludlow a year ago.

40.0 REGAL FLOW Run of 21 defeats since winning the Midlands National nearly three years back. Sixth in this race last year. He’s 14 now.

Daqman’s order in: 1 Special Acceptance, 2 Samuel Jackson, 3 Dawson City, 4 Amateur

HEROSS AVOIDS ADONIS REMATCH

⭕ 1.37 Warwick Heross Du Seuil swerves a rematch with his Kempton conqueror, Honneur d’Ajonc, in the Adonis Triumph Hurdle trial at Kempton tomorrow.

He was a length down at Kempton in December in a Ladbrokes juvenile hurdle when Honneur, the leader, fell at the last.

The 10-lengths runner-up in that Ladbrokes race has since won a fillies’ Listed over a previous dual Listed winner, so both Heross Du Seuil and Honneur d’Ajonc are well advertised.

Cabot Cliffs, fourth in the Triumph trial at Cheltenham in November, landed a CD success here recently (Admiral Balko behind), but has to give Heross 6lb under the conditions of the race.

⭕ 5.45 Wolverhampton Mark Johnston’s on a double, Fred’s on a hat-trick and Franny Norton’s just ridden four winners in a row.

They’ve won with the generous Fred at Lingfield and Chelmsford; now for Wolverhampton, Mark’s winningmost track (362) outside the big league – second only to Ascot – and Franny’s winningmost (194), second to none.

Fred has a 5lb penalty but only did enough to win on the last day. One Hart is 211 at Wolver but in lower grades. Yet he was favourite this morning, with Fred a tasty 4.9.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
