DON’T MISS SWISS

2.15 Carlisle Swiss Peak went into my notebook after finishing fifth on debut to Usain Bolt. The winner went on to finish second (all be it six lengths) to Cosmic Law in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom and the third and the fourth from the Newmarket race have won since.

It’s an open BETDAQ market, at the time of writing, headed by Theatre Of War who was a promising third at Hamilton on debut. He was doing his best work at the end and whilst racing at another stiff track today may need further than this trip to show his best.

The Karl Burke stable will still be on cloud nine after Laurens won the Prix De Diane at Chantilly yesterday and have an interesting debutant here in the shape of Simon’s Smile – a 18,000euros yearling – but I’m thinking he will need to be above average to cope with the Newmarket form and experience of Swiss Peak.

6.30 Windsor Henry Candy’s Queen Mary hopes for Royal Ascot on Wednesday with Kurious could be raised here by her work companion, the roan colt Nefarious.

Like Kurious at Sandown last week, Nefarious is far enough forward to take this on the debut, which would also emulate his star sprinter sire, Zebedee.

Zebedee won first time on this very track, Windsor, and went on to capture six sprints out of seven including the Molecomb Stakes at the Glorious Goodwood festival and the Flying Childers later on in the season.

7.00 Windsor The basement level but my man in the long grass has put in a good word for the Mick Channon trained filly Knockabout Queen.

She’s expected to improve for the step up to six furlongs and this is unquestionably a weak event.

8.50 Nottingham Silvestre De Sousa stays on at Colwick Park until way past his bedtime to ride Ravenous.

Ravenous is back to the track that suits him, off a mark 7lb lower than when he won over the Nottingham CD on similar good-to-firm ground.

On his last visit there, he was just run out of it half a length, 9lb higher than today. Both races were in class 3, two grades higher than tonight.

Ravenous has finished in the frame in five of six starts with ‘firm’ in the going return, and Nottingham is not expected to get rain (‘partly cloudy’ is the forecast).

Trainer Luke Dace is getting 100% out of his horses, according to the Racing Post’s admirable test of performance against rating.

I think 100% of Ravenous should go very close at 4.6 on BETDAQ this morning, even with recent winners Sula Island and Bailarico in the field. Their success has come only in this lower grade.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 20 points – one winner guarantees a profit on the day)
BET 5.8pts win (nap) SWISS PEAK (2.15 Carlisle)
BET 4.3pts win NEFARIOUS (6.30 Windsor)
BET 4.4pts win KNOCKABOUT QUEEN (7.00 Windsor)
BET 5.4pts win RAVENOUS (8.50 Nottingham)
