2-2 FROM DEAUVILLE GROUP RACES: Yesterday’s Daqman nap, Blackbeard, railed faster than anything on the day for 12 points from the Group-1 Prix Morny, followed up by a 10-pointer in a Group-2. That was 2-2 at Deauville for Daqman, who says: ‘To get nine naps in a row – then maybe the 10 – I have to go back to modest betting fare today and all Jumps cards tomorrow. Fish‘n chips taste good when the caviar dries up!’

BLACKBEARD BAGS MORNY BOOTY

Terrific ton! Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore took the £168k Prix Morny prize at Deauville yesterday for their 100th Group-1 together.

It was 2-2 for Ballydoyle two-year-olds at the Group-1 level this season when Blackbeard followed up Little Big Bear’s sensational Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh a fortnight earlier.

The two results, in which Richard Hannon’s Persian Force was beaten seven lengths at the Curragh and half a length at Deauville, separates the sprinter Blackbeard from the Classic hope Little Big Bear with no worries that they will have to avoid each other.

I would expect to see Blackbeard in the Middle Park and Little Big Bear in the National Stakes.

Redemption came for Hannon when Aristia won the Jean Romanet (fillies and mares Group 1) by only a neck from Paddy Twomey’s Rosscarbery.

Frankie Dettori on Verry Elleegant finished last at 12-5 favourite on her first outing for Francis-Henri Graffard.

The Melbourne Cup winner was afterwards described as ‘very rusty’, which might have helped punters nail the winner had they been given an inkling of that before the race.

HERE’S ONE TO GO TO WAR WITH

⭕ 2.25 Chepstow Winning only your maiden always creates a bad CV in a racehorse. Not that they haven’t tried to persuade Reversion to improve on it.

First they dropped him from class 2 to class 5; second of all they had him gelded; then they put cheekpieces on him; finally they tried the visor.

He got within half a length of Autumn Festival at Sandown, getting a pound last month in the cheekpieces, but ‘never doing enough to get by,’ says the Raceform racereader. So his getting another pound today might not make the difference.

It was Autumn Festival’s third win this year and his first for William Buick, who is currently 129-127 behind Hollie Doyle with a sensational 25% strike-rate for £4.3m in prizemoney.

But the form-book has you thinking: if the hapless Reversion gets that close to Autumn Festival, surely it’s likely they’ll both get beat, if there’s a decent tool in the race!

The one to do it could be King Of War. But for his saddle slipping here at Chepstow in July, he would have been in the frame seven races in succession, maybe even landed the third win of his career.

King Of War was already a course-and-distance winner going into that race and last time out he scored a grade higher than today, in class 4, which has cost him a 3lb rise, quickly wiped out by Rhys Clutterbuck’s claim.

Whatever happens to William Buick here, he seems to have an armchair ride later on with Night Battle (3.35).
