100-30 NAP AMONG EIGHT WINNING SATURDAY BETS: Daqman landed a double-whammy at Newmarket yesterday with a lay on hot-pot Hoof It (unplaced 6-4 favourite) and the nap on the winner of the same race, Libranno (WON 100-30). He had eight winning Saturday bets.

THREE OUT OF FOUR IN DAQMAN YANKEE: He also tipped Maarek (WON 11-4), and had three doubles and a treble up in his yankee from Libranno, Michelangelo and the Irish Derby winner, Camelot (his fourth horse in the yankee was second). The Daq Multiples contributed to a total of 48 points profit on the day.

Now Camelot will light up the Leger. In not so many words, Aidan O’Brien last night virtually gave the nod to the old traditional Triple Crown route to Doncaster, so long deserted in favour of a cross-Channel ferry to the Arc.

Camelot was ‘a great horse’ and St Leger success ‘something to dream about’, he said. Completion of the treble on Town Moor in September, following 2,000 Guineas and Derby, was last performed by Nijinksy in 1970.

Nijinsky, a son of Northern Dancer, was himself the first to win it in 35 years under Lester Piggott, and Camelot is from the same male line: by Montjeu (son of Sadlers Wells, by Northern Dancer).

On a heavy surface at The Curragh last night a first-time blinkered Born To Sea closed down Camelot’s 10-lengths Newmarket Guineas verdict over him to a mere two lengths.

But Camelot was always going to win under the modern Lester Piggott, a similar lean and hungry ‘long fella’, Joseph O’Brien, despite hating the ground. Camelot’s class won through in the mud.

THE CURRAGH (Pretty Polly Stakes): Today Ballydoyle declines to risk Was and Maybe in the prestigious Pretty Polly (4.20), leaving the favourite’s spot to Dermot Weld’s Sapphire, with that one’s 3.8 on BETDAQ before the defections now looking a jewel of a bet (now 2.26 as I write).

But there are others who had taken 17.0 on the Daq about the now sole O’Brien representative, Up. They are equally happy over their cornflakes.

It’s still a Pretty Polly to be savoured, with John Gosden saddling his last year’s Epsom Oaks third, Izzi Top (2.42), unbeaten in three races since.

Izzi Top won on the soft at Saint-Cloud last backend and stepped up a grade from that to win a Group-2 at York in the Spring, albeit with just one Group-3 winner against her that day. But, equally, it was only a Group 3 that Sapphire won at Cork a fortnight ago.

The two older fillies have to give 11lb to Up, who can be forgiven her French Oaks failure (short of room, switched), and that 17.0 was tremendous value for one placed in both English and 1,000 French Guineas.

Being by Galileo (Sadlers Wells), Up also has the blue blood of the mighty Northern Dancer. I have to charge her to the account at the 8.0 I see on the Daq after the market was reformed.

UTTOXETER (Summer Cup): Gordon Elliott’s Irish raiders are four out of five at Uttoxeter but I was surprised to see Cottage Oak (3.30) among the favourites on BETDAQ this morning as I write. He is a big price to lay, but may be worth a place lay, if any further support for him is reflected in the green.

Cottage Oak is better off with Mumbles Head on their one-two at Perth last month, but he was never going to get to the winner that day and he simply hates jumping left-handed (his record on LH tracks is 0-6; but on RH he has a 76% win and place strike-rate)

Mumbles Head was hammered by the handicapper – 13lb higher – for that Perth romp, and I don’t fancy his Peter Bowen stablemate, Harouet. Though Jamie Moore is unbeaten on him (two out of two), Harouet has been gleaning prizemoney from very small fields.

Inside Dealer is on the upgrade but the one I fancy at the weights (please don’t rain!) is Scotsbrook Cloud (yes, cloudy will do), who is acey-deucey under Sam Twiston-Davies, one win and one second: 10.5 on BETDAQ.

Despite his recent form, the main danger may be the third Bowen hope, Ballyvesey (8.6 as I write), second in the race last year when it was run two furlongs further, and 9lb lower now, with a tongue-strap fitted for the first time. He, too, would not want rain.

DAQMAN’S BETS
BET 2.6pts win BALLYVESEY, and 2pts win and place SCOTSBROOK CLOUD (3.30 Uttoxeter)
BET 2pts win and place SHERMAN McCOY (3.40 Salisbury)
BET 4.6pts win (nap) MIGHTY MONTY (4.05 Uttoxeter)
BET 2.8pts win UP and 1.1pts win (stakes saver) IZZI TOP (4.20 The Curragh)
BET 2.1pts win and place GLAZE (5.50 Salisbury)

* Daqman’s selections are backed to win 20 points (unless otherwise stated) so, if you divide 20 by his stake, you know the Betdaq offer taken at the time of writing.

* Points are what you make them: if you bet in tenners, then 4pts win is £40; 3.2pts win is £32 (in fivers, those stakes would be £20 and £16). Daqman bets to a level return so that you can easily assess his tipping ability.
