LUCKY, LUCKY 26-1 BRONZE MEDAL FOR DAQMAN: Daqman stepped up to the podium yesterday for a 50-point pay-out on the Ayr Bronze Cup at a sensational 27.0 BETDAQ morning offers. Lucky Lucky Man (WON 12-1) should read ‘lucky, lucky punters’ with such amazing double-your-money value on BETDAQ, says Daqman.

WON 12-1 LUCKY LUCKY MAN (from 27.0 on BETDAQ)

HE’S 218 POINTS CLEAR IN THE SEASON TO DATE: Daqman now leads Pricewise 69-22 and is 218 points clear (profit and loss + 100 over -118 to single-unit stakes) from 91 value races this season. Here are today’s headlines:

SILVER: ‘SNAZZY’ DAZZLES ON SOFT
GOLD: PLAY ACES TO LAND THE PLOT
NEWBURY: FRANKIE TO SHOW STYLE

SILVER: SNAZZY DAZZLES ON SOFT

2.40 Ayr (Silver Cup) Are these the figures that hold the key to Silver and Gold: 16, 23, 25, 20?

The first four by stall in yesterdays’ Bronze suggest that we should be looking among the high numbers in the draw for Silver and Gold this afternoon.

The last time the trio of sprint cups was run at Ayr (2016), the pattern of stalls success was repeated through Bronze, Silver and Gold, with horses drawn 5, 8 and 8 returned the winners.

A soft-heavy winner from a huge field at the Curragh last year at this time, Snazzy Jazzy, making it 3-3 that day, had a couple of runs in August which should have put him right for this. Stall 23 and offers of 20.0 on BETDAQ were taken this morning.

Though his claim to fame is winning the 5f Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury last year (on soft), Bengali Boys (stall 19) is related to 7f horses. Will be racing off a 13lb lower mark then when a close fourth in a Listed afterwards: 17.0 taken.

Stablemate Gabrial The Saint at 18.5 (drawn 16) has shown steady improvement and his turf form below Listed level, if you delete all races with ‘firm’ in the going return, is 2311.

If a low stall scores, it might be Shared Equity. Coral Sprint winner in 2015 was back to form in June dropped 12lb, winning over 7f at Epsom on the soft when he was immediately earmarked for these Ayr races.

GOLD: PLAY ACES TO LAND THE POT

3.50 Ayr (Gold Cup) It’s Aces high (at 22.0 on BETDAQ) in the Ayr Gold Cup for a stable in fantastic form: leading up until Sandown Wednesday, Ian Williams had six-day form figures extraordinary of 132101114431211.

I was surprised when Aces, second in the Group-2 Champagne Stakes as a juvenile, won twice on a sound surface in the summer, the last of them carrying 10st in a class 2 on the July Course.

‘He’ had been gelded and switched from France, where he’d won twice on heavy ground, over 5.5f and 7f.

Like Aces, five others with leading chances have shown stamina beyond 6f, which is a key to finding Gold, particularly when the race is run in the mud: Baron Bolt, Growl, Gunmetal, Muntadab and Son of Rest.

Growl, second to Brando in this race in 2016, has been slipping down the handicap, third in the Stewards Cup and the Great St Wilfrid but, even so, his current ‘bridesmaid’ figures of 204333 show just how hard it is to win with him.

Baron Bolt always comes good in July and August (figures for that month 1101101) and it’s very much down to Cameron Noble’s 5lb claim whether he can continue his run into the autumn.

Gunmetal is currently 11301 but has run only once on soft ground (unplaced) and, at this stage of his career, we are entitled to assume of a five-year-old’s career that this has been policy.

Son Of Rest and Muntadab are opposite ends of the spectrum. Muntadab, a 7f horse, will be trying to make all and could well hang on into a place, whereas Son Of Rest, who has only ever won at 5f, will be saved up.

His second in the Group-1 Flying Five at The Curragh last weekend says he has the class to get involved but does he have the stamina in this ground?

There’s very little between Flying Pursuit, Golden Apollo and Teruntum Star on collateral form, but Teruntum Star (19.0) will love the soft surface.

In the same ownership, Wokingham third Major Jumbo (BETDAQ 19.0) relies on Finley Marsh’s claim, but has been kept fresh for this.

NEWBURY: FRANKIE T0 SHOW STYLE

1.45 Newbury Cambridgeshire hopes Mountain Angel and Stylehunter could fight this out, with 6.4 Stylehunter (Frankie Dettori) most appealing.

Mountain Angel has improved 13lb this year but Stylehunter is up 22lb in the same period and John Gosden is on record as saying that he thinks he’s better than a handicapper.

2.20 Newbury Mirage Dancer had several possibilities over the weekend but this is the chosen race (at around 2-1 early mouse) for yet another Sir Michael Stoute improver.

The big, athletic son of Frankel was talked off for an autumn American prize after romping home in Goodwood’s Glorious Stakes in August.

2.55 Newbury Ribchester and Harry Angel won this in consecutive years, and it would be a shame if rain ruined the race today, with several strong contenders.

Junius Brutus yesterday was supposed to set me up a good thing in 7.0 offer Kessaar, who beat him at Kempton. Maybe it was the heavy ground at Ayr that stopped him.

Official ratings have Shine So Bright and The Irish Rover on 108; Kessaar, True Mason and Marie’s Diamond on 107. That tight.
