ANOTHER EXPERT KNOCKING AFTER DAQMAN 7-1 HIT: With Paul Kealy named ‘top tipster’ on the front page of the Racing Post, it was a magnet to Daqman to take him on in three races yesterday. The result, a 7-1 winner for our tipping ace at Sandown, so that he finished 1-0 up and nine points in front of Kealy to a single-unit stake (+6 to -3).

WON 7-1 Cosmopolitan Queen

NOW HE WANTS A TOPPER IN TIME FOR ROYAL ASCOT: Today Tom Segal returns to lead the Post’s 200 experts as Pricewise, with the current score of 30-9 to Daqman revealing a 107-point lead to level stakes: Daqman’s profit is +27 to Pricewise loss of -80. Can they find a topper in time for Royal Ascot from 2.25 and 3.35 York, and the 3.15 Sandown? Daqman’s headlines:

  • CITY WIN FOR RYAN THE RONALDO
  • MARMELO CAN SHOW HIS CLASS
  • JAWWAAL HUGE AT BETDAQ 22.0
  • BAD DRAW CHIEF REASON TO BET!

CITY WIN FOR RYAN THE RONALDO

2.25 York Golden Apollo may as well stay in the racecourse stables and not bother to go home to Hambleton!

His last three races have been on the Knavesmire – five there in all – and, though he’s won only once, his step back up to 7f on the last day suggested more to come.

Today he’s installed in the same gate 9 as the last two winners of this race, both also aged four.

Escobar’s win earlier in the week boosted his Doncaster conqueror, Spanish City, who had been sixth in the Victoria Cup.

Ryan Moore takes over, and there was very good money about for him this morning: 3.7 in the BETDAQ orange tells you Ryan is the Ronaldo to throw them a curved ball today.

Squats is down 7lb on last year at this time and Oisin Murphy could make a difference. Get Knotted and Muntabar probably need some rain, so check out on those ‘occasional showers’ which are forecast.

WORLD CUP WATCH: Rio Ronaldo runs in the 2.35 Sandown, but the gamble of the race this morning was Shamshon.

MARMELO CAN SHOW HIS CLASS

3.00 York Old Clever Cookie tries to make it three wins in this race, but it’s a few years now since his back-to-back successes of 2014-15.

Marmelo’s last seven races have been in Group company, and he won the Kergorlay on good ground at Deauville last August.

The handicapper says that Weekender is a 27lb better animal than he was a year ago, but he’s been a nearly horse in the better class company, failing to make the breakthrough even at today’s Listed level.

But he and Marmelo are joint top-rated here, officially 6lb in front of Time To Study, who made all in a three-horse affair to beat Duke Of Bronte last October.

Algometer and Duretto are both Group-3 winners but it’s hard to see them coping with the fast ground, if fast it is after any ‘occasional showers.’

Melodic Motion has shot up 24lb, not disgraced at a high level against her own sex, and Ralph Beckett won this race two years ago with a similar filly. Big at 12.5 offers on BETDAQ.

JAWWAAL HUGE AT BETDAQ 22.0

3.35 York Seven winners of this sprint out of 10 have come out of the lowest eight stalls. But high numbers had the edge in the big-field seller yesterday, and rain usually swings the bias over to high.

That’s where, in my opinion, the two form horses, Beshaayir and Snazzy Jazzy, reside though, ironically, Beshaayir doesn’t want rain.

Staxton finished in front of Snazzy Jazzy over a furlong further at Newmarket in April, but Jazzy needed the run and will be a different proposition over the shorter trip today.

Jawwaal, who has won only in lower grade, is unexposed at today’s trip and is a strong, pacey sort. There are other chances, like Foxtrot Lady for an in-form yard, and Richard Fahey is four-handed.

The high draw seems to have the power pack, so I’ll reluctantly leave out Staxton, whose trainer, Tim Easterby, has won this three times in five years.

The stats tell me that only one winner has carried more than 8st 11lb in eight seasons, so I’ll take Beshaayir (6.2 offers in BETDAQ) and Jawwaal (huge at 22.0).

BAD DRAW CHIEF REASON TO BET!

3.15 Sandown Gossiping is 5-12 going right-handed, particularly with an uphill finish (two wins at Goodwood).

The handicapper has not been keen to drop him after his five-out-of-seven sequence last year but there’s been money for him the last twice, with excuses each time.

Chiefofchiefs steps back up a grade after a narrow victory here in the Whitsun Cup over Spring Mile third Kynren, Silver Cambridgeshire fifth Mountain Angel and dual progressive winner Fastar.

Via Serendipity was fifth in the Victoria Cup, followed home by Spanish City, winner each side of that race, and Gilgamesh, who then took a class 2 at York.

The winner of the Victoria Cup, Rip Orff, had been beaten on his previous start by Salt Whistle Bay but that one is a front-runner who doesn’t always get his way, and has always preferred a bit of cut in the ground.

He is now worse off with Via Serendipity, who beat him at Newmarket last autumn, and he went down at odds on the last day, so an in-and-out profile.

Zwayyan can’t be ignored with Andrew Balding’s team now in flying form. In fact, this is as tough a handicap as you’ll want to avoid anywhere!

The handicapper has seven horses in a 3lb spread, and all bar one in the entire field will race within just a 6lb range.

Four points covers seven horses in the BETDAQ market, as I write, but you were in a punter-friendly 106% overround this morning, not the 118-120% the bookies regularly charge you in this race.

I finally decided that a ‘bad’ draw on the outside in stall 11 would actually favour Chiefofchiefs (5.9 offers), because he’ll have to be dropped in. That’s exactly what he wants, to hide in the ruck and then come late.

THIS IS THE DAY TO BACK KNIGHT

3.45 Chester A class above this field and with the luxury of the one draw to kick start him, Midsummer Knight (3.6 on BETDAQ early mouse) could fly home for Karl Burke, who is in fine form and can lay his Chester bogey.
