DAQMAN STAR LANDS NAPS HAT-TRICK: Daqman made 13.50 profit on the day yesterday when he landed a naps hat-trick following a winning supernap on Thursday.

WON 7-4 NIETZSCHE’S STAR (Friday nap from 3.1 BETDAQ)
WON 8-13 SHINING BLUE (Thursday supernap from 4-5)
WON 8-11 ASAASSI (Wednesday nap)

FORTUNE COOKIES DERBY-DAY DOUBLE: The Irish Derby and the Pitman’s Derby (Northumberland Plate) both have Fortune Cookies engaged today, with 107.84 profit after six big-race winners so far. In all features races, Daqman leads Pricewise 33-22 on winning value bets.

SOUND REASONS HE WILL STAY

⭕ 1.50 Newcastle The last four winners have come from stalls 10 (x2), 11 and 14, which could be a Sound Reason (a course winner drawn 10) for following Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott, who had the first two winners when the meeting opened on Thursday.

Sound Reason has done most of his racing at 5f but I made a note against his name: breeding suggests 6f-7f.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 9.0 Sound Reason.

GOSDEN-DETTORI ‘SABBATICAL’

⭕ 2.05 Newmarket With Team Gosden and Frankie Dettori ‘taking a sabbatical’ after talks yesterday, Lezoo in this one is his only ride of the day, and it’s for Ralph Beckett.

If you’re looking for the ‘old Frankie’ to do the business for you, there were 4.5 offers on the BETDAQ exchange this morning.

My choice also comes with a proviso; Richard Hannon did well yesterday (2-4 which compares with 8-76 overall) but how can you follow a man like that who’s spending more in petrol than he’s winning in prizemoney.

You can only look for stand-outs in his team, and he should take this with Minnetonka. The Kingman filly made almost all the running at Salisbury yet surged in the final furlong.

It’s a race of eight last-time winners, including Malrescia with her double of easy wins, and stablemate Believing, thought to be worth a go at the Albany but played up in the stalls.

BETDAQ value: 2.94 Minnetonka

TAKE KEMARI TO BOUNCE BACK

⭕ 2.40 Newmarket Kemari wins this if able to reproduce last year’s Queens Vase win over Wordsworth and Stowell who, with Universal order, finished fourth and fifth in a Listed at Ascot in May.

William Buick seems to prefer Kemari to stablemate Rebels Romance, who has done most of his racing in Dubai. There’s not much enticing about Something Enticing.

BETDAQ value: just one point separates all bar Something Enticing, with 4.7 Kemari my pick to bounce back.

HAT-TRICK KING IN DRIVING SEAT

⭕ 2.55 Newcastle (Northumberland Vase) The trends for the Plate are not very illuminating and reducing this consolation Vase to a young southern raider (five wins out of six) gives you a long short-list!

The money has followed Pricewise – Haveyoumissedme and Geremia – and Hugh Taylor, with Tiger Jet crashing with the bookies from 33-1 to 9-1.

If I oppose the North with a traveler, and a youngster at that, I swerve those; the value has gone in any case.

Alan King has just trained a hat-trick at Salisbury, Bath and Leicester at 6-1, 4-1 and 11-2, so his plans to concentrate more on the flat are blooming at all levels.

Before Truesham in the big race, he could place at least with Hollie Doyle’s mount, Catbird Seat. He and Mellow Magic (Andrew Balding) are ultra consistent, the sort to win this.

BETDAQ value 13.5 Mellow Magic, 19.5 Catbird Seat

TRUESHAN IN CHECK TO KNIGHT

⭕ 3.30 Newcastle (Northumberland Plate) Rajinsky and the FORTUNE COOKIE Trueshan were less than a length apart, fourth and sixth in this race a year back, when Rajinsky was hampered in the closing stages and placed third.

Rajinsky was also third in the Chester Cup the last day, while Trueshan has been waiting in vain for soft ground which helped him to the French Gold Cup over Stradivarius in October, as part of a hat-trick.

The Melrose winner, Valley Forge, saw 2m out well when stepped up in trip at Haydock in May. Second and third, Golden Flame (by a head) and Alright Sunshine, are both that bit better off with the winner but it was a poor time and, as the fast-finisher from off the pace, Valley Forge will benefit a from big-field charge.

Summers Knight was one of those Sir Mark Prescott sequence horses last season, with a 34lb rise in the ratings as a three-year-old through form figures 1121101.

Success came mainly at 1m 6f but his dam was sister to an Ascot Gold Cup, and Summers Knight himself had an entry in that race, prepping for it at Newmarket in May.

The step up to 2m on Tapeta today should be fine and I’d love to have had the 20-1 opening price. Now down to 9.9 on BETDAQ.

IT’S ALL OVER FOR TUESDAY..

⭕ 3.45 The Curragh (Irish Derby) ABC guide: Daqman Wednesday

The Tuesday v Westover contest could be one to remember but their best results are tempered with ‘what might have been.’

If you believe, as I do, that we have an Epsom Derby winner to rank with the best of modern times, then a colt within three lengths of him should be special enough to win his own accolades.

In fact, there might have been a closer finish with Desert Crown, had Westover not been denied a clear run more than once.

A day earlier, Tuesday got loose from the Oaks pack but only just hung on as Emily Upjohn flew down the rail to get within a short-head of the winner in a slower time than the Derby.

Fast finishers all, but a third runner today, Hannibal Barca, has his DNA laced with stamina, so I’m expecting a stayer rather than a speedster to win in the end.

That, for me, is Westover (BETDAQ 2.6), who will be galloping on strongly and can give the 3lb allowance to the filly at this stage.

Emily Upjohn should have overtaken Tuesday at Epsom and Westover himself finished in overtaking mode in a faster-run Derby.
