DAQMAN RIPS OFF THREE SUPERNAPS OUT OF FOUR: Daqman made it three supernaps from the last four with Reeth (WON 10-11) as he totted up 23 points profit yesterday from two returns. The supernap sequence:

WON 5-4 LET RIP
WON 8-13 APPLES JADE
WON 10-11 REETH

HE LEADS PRICEWISE 13-7 INTO FOUR SATURDAY RACES: He goes into the Saturday racing 13-7 up on Pricewise in their value-bets challenge but, with Daqman only two points up and Pricewise two down (to a single-unit stake), both sides are hoping for a big hit from among the 2.40 Wincanton, 3.00 Sandown, 3.15 Wincanton and 3.35 Sandown.

IT LOOKS SO EASY FOR LAURINA

1.50 Sandown (Mares Hurdle) Laurina at last! It’s 279 days since she completed the mares-novices’ double at Cheltenham and Fairyhouse last Spring.

This is not a Willie Mullins race, nor is it one which pathfinds for the Champion Hurdle, not even for the Mares Hurdle.

And it will be no indicator today with all bar one opponent jumping ship. Can we at least have reserves for races which take so much money out of the kitty so they at least have some meaning?

VALUE IN PAUL NICHOLLS’ PAIR

2.25 Sandown (Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle) This has been won recently by a Supreme Novices winner and a fourth, and by an Albert Bartlett scorer. Usual suspect: Nicky Henderson (4-8).

It will decide whether his Rathhill is good enough for the Supreme or whether he is more for stamina and will go instead for the Ballymore (2m 5f).

For one described as a burly horse who needs plenty of work, he took his Newbury maiden well after a long break so, in theory, we’re not guessing whether the bounce factor applies but how much improvement he will make.

Front-runners Elixir De Nutz and Southfield Stone should make it an honest pace. ‘Nutz’ has run only left-handed, and has been successful only at Cheltenham; ‘Stone’ only right-handed, successful only at Taunton.

Harry Cobden’s won on him three times in a row. That’s why he’s in the saddle today, says Paul Nicholls; but stablemate Grand Sancy, now handed over to Sam Twiston-Davies, is also three times a winner under Cobden.

Because the BETDAQ overround was so low (102%), you could get 9.2 Southfield Stone and 10.5 Grand Sancy as a broadside to Rathhill (not much better than evens). Two chances of a turn-up but keep stakes low.

TEDHAM IS WELL HANDICAPPED

2.40 Wincanton Six new to handicaps here so a lot of guesswork by the handicapper, particularly with Tedham and Earlofthecotswolds. Always interesting when such debutants are stepped up in trip.

Tedham is well related for a stamina test, and his second to Challow Hurdle (Grade 1) runner-up Getaway Trump makes him a standout on form.

He is strictly 11lb behind Trump, who deserves something more than the 142 he was given after running the 150-rated Champ to two-and-a-half lengths.

Hit two out and carried left run-in, Tedham is at least 6lb light. Opened around 5-1 on BETDAQ.

ROSE GIVEN CHANCE TO BLOOM

3.00 Sandown (Veterans’ Chase Series Final) Can Pete repeat the feat? I probably answered that question yesterday, when I warned that the handicapper has dropped him no more than 2lb since his heyday of five wins in a row in 2012, setting a huge task for a 15-year-old.

But that’s largely Pete’s fault. He’s won three chases at Sandown since, including this one in January, 2017.

His conqueror in the 2018 running of this final, Buywise, is better off by a couple of pounds but he is now 12 and I’d be looking to horses of 11 who were only 10 a few days ago.

Rock Gone’s form after a break since joining Richard Newland is 32022, a bit of a bridesmaid, beaten 10 lengths on his only Sandown start.

That was on the last day when 11 lengths behind Loose Chips. He’s nearly a stone better off and Loose Chips is 13 now.

Rathlin Rose is 11124, still standing, here at Sandown, though all wins were in class 3 and he could only plug on, fourth, behind Loose Chips and Rock Gone in leg eight of the series in November.

However, the handicapper has given him a chance here and the David Pipe yard is in top gear, winning the Tommy Whittle for me with Daklondike, one of five Wellington winners over Christmas. I got an average just below 11.0.

Le Reve catches the eye. His Sandown form in the last four years is 111, still standing. That disguises the fact that he’s pulled up the last twice but he’s slid a stone down the handicap in seven starts.

Five of his last six chases have been in Graded company so this is quite a drop in class combined with his handicap slide, and Daryl Jacob is back on board for the first time since the combo won at this level over the CD four years back. Around 10.0, also fluctuating.

ALL ABOARD THE CATAMARAN!

3.15 Wincanton This could be a real thriller. Only five points in an open 104% overround separate all bar one of this field on BETDAQ, which contains a battle of top girls Brony Frost (Copain de Classe on her stable’s home track) and Bridget Andrews on Value At Risk.

Value At Risk beat Sizing Platinum (one win since 2015) and Theinval (one in his last 14 starts) at Ayr in April but does not appeal on recent form. Nor does Opening Batsman, now 13.

Copain De Classe is in an out but best on a right-handed track like today but should outclass Calipto (one win since 2015) without stopping Catamaran Du Seuil, a 6.6 offer on BETDAQ as I write.

Catamaran has tried and failed over the Grand National fences and stepped up to Graded racing at Cheltenham but could bounce back in this company on a right-handed (2-3) flat track today.
